Is it just me or does it feel like there is to much hype or over confidence in SU tomorrow?

IMO there is ZERO chance bad UNC shows up tomorrow, they have a huge talented front court (James, Meeks, McAdoo) Johnson and Tokoto are as athletic as any players we will see all year and while they might not be a great 3pt shooting team McDonald and Paige can get hot from deep, they are a GREAT rebounding team and all you have to do is watch their win @Michigan St. when they out rebounded Izzo's team by 11 and won by 14

I probably talk as much trash about the opposition as the next poster, but no game should be taken for granted. As you mention, talent, depth, rebounding and also an up and down pace to the game makes me nervous in the pants. Still, if any team has the mindset to battle a team playing up for the game, it's Cuse.

Richmond taught me about over confidence and years latter Vermont re-enforced that lesson. So... ;)

I find at these guy's level, they are confident for everyone. They "know" they are better, and will play that way.
Fanboards get overconfident, 18-20yr old kids and their Coaches don't.

ITS NOT JUST YOU But the caps are on me. CRAP!!!:bang: I have a bad feeling about this game tomorrow. We need our offense to be up and running off the jump. The zone busters will be in play draining threes unless Jimmy makes an adjustment early in there.

That's the worst part about being at our level. We have bull-eyes on our back and teams are usually more focused and prepared, and we get their best shot, whatever that means.
We are looking at all the how they lost their "bad" games, how who won their "good" games, Historical record of NC at the Dome (when only1 was against us, 30 yrs ago), when its really as simple as 2 groups of kids playing ball at that level.

Agreed, since no one on the team today was even born for the Richmond game and doubt they even know about the Vermont game. I was just talking about a fans (ok an old fans) perspective. ;)

JB on Thursday night said NO. Over-confidence is a fan problem. :)

Zactly. Now let's round up our board posters vs. their board posters and go 5 on 5. We'd have very right to be over confident because we are just THAT good.

I'm not athletic or super mobile anymore but I can come off the bench and make shots.

i'm worried about this game. this is the type of team that will give us problems. i'd rather face a good shooting team then a good rebounding team. the zone gives up far too many offensive rebounds. UNC doesn't need to knock down 3's if they are getting cheapies. I still think Cuse is the clearly better team, but it will be a dog fight.

two games into the conference season, at lest 3/4 of the board is worried whether a 1 seed will be automatic when (not if) SU wins the ACC . . . I'd say overconfidence is certainly the word, and tomorrow's game is just the tip of the iceberg

It seems everything is in our favor;

- Inexpericed team
- First time in the Dome for all of their players
- First time against our zone
- A coach that hasn't had success vs. JB
- A team that really can't shoot the 3
- A team that can't make FTs

I'm not nervous, but I know I should be. Like people have said, UNC could absolutely give us issues on the boards (I think Baylor might be a better rebounding team than them though), and Paige/McAddoo/Johnson have the potential to go off. But our team seems different this year, and I'm confident in them.

Navy taught me.
I was at that game. Seeing David Robinson 'up close and personal' I wasn't too shocked. (OK maybe the years have played tricks with my memory.) ;)

I'm not over confident in any game. I think we're the better team every single game before the game starts (the past 4-5 years) but it's college basketball, so many variables and just so many talented players even in the lower level teams who can shock the world every once in awhile. Even being number two in the country it wouldn't be a SHOCK in my mind if we lost tomorrow or to Duke one of the times we play them.

I just am curious... If we lose, will there be a MELTDOWN??? Or just a lot of excuses and reasons why we should still be ranked #1?

Being nobody would participate in my 1st meltdown prediction thread(now would they last year), I am curious if people here think this board is even capable of a meltdown? Dammit, I just love the word meltdown...which I learned from you guys, but you havent really used it since the scout board. Im not rooting for one, but still miss discussing meltdowns. I may not be sober, but i think I still have a valid inquiry that deserves some attention.

The thing that killed me about that was, 3 months earlier we destroyed them. what seemed to change, though in the interim, was in December their main guy was a 6'5" forward by the name of Vernon Butler. In March The Admiral has taken hold of the ship. I was at that game too, what a dark bleak day. And I had to stay for the next game (St Joe's Ohio U) because a friend of mine who went to Ohio was here.

Home losses shock me, even against very good teams. Road losses never do. Even moreso coming from the Conference we did. We are #2 so we get everybody's best shot at their place , VPI notwithstanding. I always go into any road game assuming its at best a 50/50 proposition

Depends how you define meltdown? I would imagine between everyone on this board, if we do lose, every possible reason why will be uncovered, and resolved by the next game.
