Not gonna happen tonight. People keep saying we got picked off by them when we should have rolled them when they came into the Dome as an underdog. Big difference in that team than this Pitt team.

Pitt was 11-2 coming into that game and ranked. They had players like Wanamaker, Gibbs, Dixon, Woodall, McGhee and Brown. Tough bruiser players, good defenders and rebounders and they could shoot (they made 10 three pointers in that game). We made 1 three pointer in that game and were outplayed. Gibbs hit huge shots in that second half and Pitt pulled away.

This Pitt team doesnt defend like the Pitt teams of old. Woodall being out is really hurting this team. They dont rebound as well, they dont defend as well and they flat out dont shoot it as well.

If we lose this game tonight we would have to play by far our worst game we could possibly play and Pitt would have to make 10+ three pointers.

This team wants to beat Pitt and I liken it to the Seton Hall performance where we wanted to prove a point. I think we put this demon behind us tonight and prove a point.

They've also had some turnover issues. Wouldn't be shocked if we saw some more of that press tonight.

Yeah, if you told me that we'd shoot 7% from three again, I might be a little nervous, but I don't see what all the worry is about this one. All arguments seem to be driven by past losses by completely superior Pitt teams to this version. That 2010 Pitt team ended up being a 3 seed I believe. This one might be on the NIT bubble. Those past losses also may end up serving as some sort of motivation for us.

They don't defend nearly as well as in the past. They handle the ball poorly(and we take it away better than anyone they've played). They are awful against presses(see: Blue Demons, Depaul). The supporting cast other than Gibbs struggles to score, so I expect we'll see some semblance of the treatment we gave Wayns last week(17 ppg scorer, down to 3 against us) on him. They lost to Depaul. And Wagner. And Rutgers...by 20. Anything can happen but I really don't see us losing to this team or it even being all that close.

Did we really shoot 7% from deep in that game? If so, that makes me a little more confident for tonight. Although the idea that we are "motivated" to get even can't be true because if it was would have been motivated to win last year, the year before, the year before that, and so on...

The losing to Rutgers by 20? Marquette lost to Vandy by like 30 or something and almost beat us playing a poor-man's P.U. game. This P.U. team has good players, a coach that doesn't rent JB, he owns him outright, a team that expects to win in our building, and a style that seems to negate any talent advantages we have. I am expecting a grinder that we maybe eek out a win. Our last regular season win against them, seven years ago, went to overtime and neither team team scored 50 points.

There's people who have done less time for murder than it has been since we've beaten these hacks. No way any of us should be at ease today.

Marquette turned what had been a tight game around when they went to a press with about 8 minutes left in the game. They turned Pitt over on 3 of their next 4 possessions and opened up the game. Pitt really has trouble with pressure because they only have 1 guy - Gibbs - who can handle and it takes him out of his scorer's role, Hope JB is aggressive tonight.

I believe that was the game we went up 10 pts early. At which point, I suggested that it would be nice to win by 30. At which point, Pitt outscored us the rest of the way by about 30. Fortunately, I don't believe in jinxs.

I too thought the same thing. We were up 20-10 after going on a 10-0 run and then Pitt ended up closing the halftime lead to 30-27.

BTW there were 45 total fouls called in that game. The officials? Big shocker...

I could be wrong, but I think they still lead the Big East in rebounding. They are still passing the ball very well and they are shooting a high percentage for the season, despite the last couple craptastic games they put up. I expect their A game tonight. This is going to be a tough game. I hope we come prepared to lay a savage beat down on them.

Pitt does rebound very well on both ends of the floor and always seems to keep three to go after offensive rebounds while dropping two in case of a run out. If anything, this could cause problems for our defense of they don't position themselves better. However, Pitt also turns the ball over a lot without Woodall in the game and although Gibbs is a good ball handler he plays much better off the ball. I expect the defense to keep Gibbs in check.

really everything is pointing to this being a snoozer

Pitt has no where near the talent they usually have so any advantage they get from Dixon owning JB is out the door

they are on a Sat-Mon road trip, came right from Wisco Saturday, looked very depressed/out of it at the sheraton

turnover prone and no where near the defensive team they usually are = whooping

McGhee and Krauser before him could stink up a game for 30 minutes then make EVERY shot when it counted. Krauser reminded me of Scoop. Had a lot of "Bad Scoop" in him, but rarely at bad times. Wonder what Pitt fans thought of him? Knight was the type that would turn the ball over to you with 11 seconds left, you then tie the score, then Knight would hit a GW shot.
The guy that I tip my cap to , the only one off the recent Pitt teams was Chevon Troutman. That guy was a ball player. He was like a Paul Harris that could dribble, make layups and not make turnovers.

I'll be shocked and ticked if we don't press them early and often. Their guards aren't great ball handlers, especially with no Woodall. I don't want a slow down game either, so that would push the temp too. Have a feeling Dixon is going to go to the stall often and hope his guys can crash the glass on their misses.

Thank god they don't have "Predator" McGhee anymore. I hated that dude.

Typical Pitt MO has been crash the boards and sometimes eat away 2-3 min of clock per "group of possessions " caused by Off Rebounds. Opponent Off Rebounds have been painfully common this years. Also they have had a "Bull" roaming the Baseline, (Blair, McGhee, Gray ) closest they have to it this year is Robinson but he is more a slasher.

;) I kind of hope Pitt is able to keep it competitive for a while. The second halves of SU games this year have been pretty boring. Saturdy's 2nd half was borderline unwatchable.

Heh I hear ya man. I think however you will enjoy it a lot more tonight given the opponent!

Just contain Robinson and Zanna on the offensive boards and D up Gibbs. SHOULD be fine in this one. If they score 70 I would be shocked and we probably lose.
