If anyone is interested in catching the afternoon (or evening) games on Friday while we are in Pittsburgh, some of us will be meeting at the following BWW.

Buffalo Wild Wings
WILKINS TOWNSHIP

3469 William Penn Highway
Wilkins Township, PA 15235
Phone: 412-824-1720

The early afternoon games are pretty good so I and a few others plan to get there around noon. It is in a convenient location and 5-10 minutes east of where everyone is staying off a main highway.

Bees, depending upon where everyone is staying, I would avoid that place like the plague. With traffic (you have to head through a dreaded tunnel) to get there (376 is a nightmare).

For those staying a bit east of downtown (Oakland/Shadyside) you are better off heading to the Southside Works. There is a Hofbrauhaus for you German beer fans as well as Claddagh Irish Pub. Here's the address: 2705 South Water Street Pittsburgh, PA 15203
(412) 224-2328.

I think some of you are staying a Station Square, go to the Steelhouse: http://www.steelhousepittsburgh.com/

For those near the airport, there's a sports bar called http://robinsonallstarsportsbar.com/index.html.

If you are near the casino, Bettis' Grille is great on the Northshore.

Some of us have kids with us. Is it that bad in the middle of the day to get to that BWW? We're talking about a day game watch.

It's not that bad, but it gets horrible by 4PM. Where are you staying?

Oakland area. So it's on the same side of the city.

Honestly, you're better off driving to the Southside Works or Station Square. The works is kind of an outdoor shopping / mixed use place. Square has plenty of option from Steelhead's to Bar Louie to Buckhead Saloon. I've had my two girls to both places (3 and 1 1/2). There's nothing out towards BWW, and traffic can be a pest.

its st. patricks day...and trust me i'm a 24 year old male n live in pittsburgh...you do NOT want to bring any kids around south side/station square area...on Saturday at least and friday night

Isnt St Patty's Day Saturday and people are talking about Friday? Saturday my ass is in the arena. BTW St Pattys day blows. Viva Italia!

I spend lots of time in Pittsburgh. I agree with CIL. Wilkins and anywhere around 376 (Parkway) is a nightmare around 4 maybe even starting at 3:30. Southside or Station Square is a good idea. FatHeads has some of the best bar food I've ever had. On Carson Street. They have TVs and probably all the games on. Hofbrauhaus also a very good idea. Good calls CIL!

Is it bad in both directions? Usually traffic is bad going into a city in the AM and out in the PM. We would be going the opposite directions. Also, like I said earlier, some of us will have kids in tow. The places you and CIL named seem like places where the large crowds from all teams will be and will be tougher to get a group together since they are more "downtown". We prefer something a bit out of town that may not be wall to wall.

Is there another BWW that may be easier to get to? There are 6 in the Pitt area.

Fatheads is very good and anything in Station Square is a good choice. I think any place on Friday is going to be busy. You have out of town visitors, St Paddy's Day weekend and first nice weekend of the year. Adds up to a huge weekend for the bar owners. If you want an out of the way area, head to Robinson Town Center. Lots of choices and a little bit out of the way.

Hmmm...those places could be slammed like you think. Usually the Parkway (376) is bad both ways in the afternoon. There just aren't many arteries and highways to and from the city with the tunnels and mountains. Only other place I can think of that is kid friendly would be Dave and Busters at the Waterfront. Short drive from Oakland/Shadyside via city streets. The Waterfront is a former steelyard and now refurbished outdoor mall/shopping area on the along the Monongahela in the Homestead area. Lots of parking in that complex.

376 is a nightmare both ways as there are only tunnels to get in and out of the city (both South and East). I live in the south hills and it's a nightmare as well. I don't think FRiday will be too bad for the St. Patty's day crowd as it falls on a Saturday, not Friday.

If you are dead set on going to BWW, then I would maybe suggest the drive to Cranberry if you want to skip traffic. The other, and maybe better suggestion is BWW in Robinson Township. Head out of the city before the games (noonish) and head back into the city after 6PM or so if you feel like spending 6 hours there. Robinson is closer to the airport (and me :noidea:) where you could incorporate more board citizens.

The only thing I've learned from this thread is that people that complain about traffic in Syracuse are nuts.

Guilty as charged. It takes me 13 minutes to get to work. If it takes me 15 I lose my mind.

Another option for those staying in Oakland/Shadyside. North of the Pitt campus. Great beers

Good call on that. Interesting space obviously. I personally think the food is better than the beers but still a cool place. It's in the Lawrenceville area. If there are any fine diners out there I highly recommend this newer gastropub also in Lawrenceville/Garfield on Penn Ave called Salt of The Earth.

I will post again tomorrow after I talk with the people at the hotel but "my crew" will be going to a BWW (not saying anyone else has to) for the Friday afternoon games. After listening to everyone's advice about the traffic we may head out toward the airport BWW which is still only a 15-20 minute drive. Below is the location of that one. Will update tomorrow.

Buffalo Wild Wings

I knew I shouldnt have opened this thread! Damn I miss that city! The most underated northeast city imo. Some stuff came up or I'd be there with ya.

Everyone loves the advice given by locals but for me it was bittersweet &a walk down memory lane. I went to school there, I lived downtown for a year and on southside for a few.

There is a casino now? Wow, I left just before all the money got in place. The convention center was going in and stadiums on there way. All the extra development from southside works to waterfront were long planned projects that actually got done. Great to see for that struggling city too rise back up.

If you are young and without kids, I'd take all his advice very seriously. I'll add a few nuggets:

I know everyone knows about Primanti Brothers sandwiches, the best there is, btw! Also go to the deli on southside (16th/Carson I'm not sure cause it moved a block or two) and try anything. I sold more Steamed Reubens, Godfather's & Italian sandwiches than anything, ;-)

For fine dining and if with your woman take the drive or trolley up mount Washington at night and go to one of the restaurants on the cliffside. Great places but the names elude me right now. From this vantage point, the city is really stunning at night. Eating dinner with floor to ceiling windows on the edge of the mountain and the white glove service u can expect up there will leave your women's inhibitions behind.

I'm guessing Bettis's place is the old woodsons (next to station square), that would be a good place for brunch &beers, then u can hit station squares places for more scenery. From there hop a cab down Carson street to 17th street for the deli.

BTW there is a Primanti Brothers is across from Fat heads (19th & Carson) this place has more Beer Taps than tables but it has a great selection and as stated before great food too. If its still there, Shootz cafe is a great billiard hall down by 23rd and Carson. That would be a great afternoon and early evening. I'm not sure about nightlife, its so trendy and places change names every 2 years. He said there is a Buckhead Saloon in station square, awesome. Funny, Buckhead Saloon in Atlanta GA were basically my neighbors years ago and if its anything like the original, you must go there!
