The state finals were exactly what you’d want them to be: close, memorable exciting games that brought great credit to both teams.
CLASS AA
Section 2’s Troy stopped a two point conversation attempt by Section 5’s Victor to hold onto a 21-20 win for their third state title. #1 ranked Victor was trying to win it’s first. Troy has a team nickname worthy of a state championship: “The Flying Horses”

CLASS A
In a game that featured long plays, Section 1’s Somers won their first ever state title and denied Section 5’s Greece-Athena theirs, 25-17. The game featured a 91 yard kick-oif return, a 40 yard punt return, a 45 yard pass play and a 33 yard run, all for scores.

CLASS B
Section 2’s Glens Falls was unintimidated by Chenango Fork’s three state titles in a row, their 23 game winning streak, their state record 28 playoff wins and out-lasted the Blue Devils 47-39. Forks scored with 37 seconds left to make it 39-40. A two point conversion failed and an onside kick was returned for a score for the final margin.

CLASS C
Section 4’s Newark Valley overcame three fumbles in the first seven minutes to win an exciting 39-34 duel with Section 10’s Ogdensburg. They stormed to a 36-20 halftime lead and then held on for dear life.

CLASS D
Section 2’s Cambridge won its second state championship, (but first in this century), in double over-time, going for 2 to nip Section 6’s Maple Grove 22-21. Besides being an exciting contest, the game was notable for the fact that both teams wore white jerseys:
