Maverik Division I Media Poll: Three Teams Jump Into Top 10

Three teams have thrust themselves into the Top 10 in the latest Maverik Media Poll.

The top five largely remains the same — though Albany went from third to fourth without a chance to prove itself this past weekend — with Duke the No. 1 team and claiming most of the first-place votes. The Blue Devils, No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Denver and No. 4 Albany all have first-place votes.

Syracuse leaps into No. 7 from No. 11 after a dominant win against Binghamton. Johns Hopkins is right behind after drubbing Towson, which falls to No. 19. And Virginia lept up five spots after a double-overtime win against Loyola.

North Carolina fell five spots after a near-upset at the hand of Furman.

The coming week will shape rankings even further, as Ivy League teams begin play.

Expect the pendulum of emotions, opinions and rankings to swing almost every week with Cuse . Struggle a bit in Yale scrimmage and take is team lacks firepower, blitz Binghamton and suddenly this is the deepest offensive talent in years. Truth likely falls in middle. Encouraged by Saturday but we are the same team of a week ago that many pundits were downplaying. Everybody including Kessinich will have a better idea in a month or so where we truly stand. 'Guarded optimism" for me .
