Maryland remains No. 1 in the land — though not as definitively as a week ago.

The Terps (4-0) claimed 18 of 26 first-place votes, and preseason No. 1 Virginia (4-0) gained a few more after its drubbing of Syracuse in Charlottesville on Saturday.

To Maryland’s credit, it handled a pesky Princeton team that also moved up two spots in the Week 3 Men’s DI Media Poll.

Georgetown (3-0) and Rutgers (5-0) are ranked 3 and 4, respectively, as the top four teams in the country are undefeated. Penn (1-1) rose to No. 5 after beating Duke, and Ohio State (4-0) continues its early-season rise.

The story of February, though, has been Jacksonville (5-1). After a close loss to Johns Hopkins to start the season, the Dolphins have rattled off five straight. This weekend was a successful trip out West for wins at Denver and Air Force, pushing Jacksonville into the Top 10 at No. 8 and ahead of North Carolina (4-1), Duke (5-2) and Cornell (2-0).

Boston U (3-0) is another undefeated team and gets into the Top 20 at No. 19, tied with the Pioneers.

Check out the full Men's DI Media Poll here.

17: Syracuse

#HHH fell behind UVA 8-1. They found some juice in the middle portion of this game but came up short 20-11 in front of a large crowd at Klockner. The effort isn’t the issue. Tucker Dordevic, Griffin Cook, Mikey Berkman, Brendan Curry, and defender Brett Kennedy were the bright spots.

The good news is that SU took 51 shots. Giving up second chance UVA goals hurt. Clearing and defensive ground balls must be addressed. If SU plans on making the NCAA tournament, they’ll need a .500 record. This week is giant as they play a senior-ladened Army squad on Wednesday (ACC Network) and Hobart next weekend.

It's still very early but this could be a season of big changes in the top 20. The Jacksonville story continues to shock.

14. Syracuse The Orange did not look great in a 20-11 loss at Virginia.

They fell behind 8-1, won just 11-of-32 face-offs and, as Christian Swezey noted well in his game story, got just a 2-for-21 shooting day from stars Tucker Dordevic and Brendan Curry.

Coach Gary Gait said postgame that the contest was basically decided in the first quarter but, like they did against Maryland, the Orange continued to press and cut the Cavalier lead to 12-9 mid-way through the third quarter.

The Orange have been remarkably consistent in their lineup choices: nine of Syracuse’s 10 starters have started all three games, with only Tyler Cordes stepping in for Lucas Quinn in his absence vs. Holy Cross.

Why drop us they were last years NC and also in 2019. We have a new coaching staff and schemes after being down from our usual place for a few years. Yes we didn’t win but whoever expected us to? We improved throughout the game. IMO, we shouldn’t have dropped in the Poll; we are going to get better throughout the season!

I see laxnumbers has ratings. I believe this is Larry F from laxpower:
