Class of 2018 QB Chance Amie (TX) SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE

Pretty much all of the top 25 or so QBs in the country grab their spots before the start of their senior year so if you're not doing that then you're going to have slim pickings at that position.

The top 10 QBs right now are committed to Clemson, USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford, Notre Dame, Miami, Washington. None are committed to middling P5 schools. That's the point here. Any elite level kid without big offers is going to go through the process or take the bird in hand and save the spot. If he visits Syracuse in April (and commits) it's really not going to mean much. Not with 4 other visits to use.

How about if he has 5 OVs to use and commits in April. Tommy says hello.

Maybe. But if he commits it does. The vast majority of players that verbal end up sticking with their original commitment (greater than 90 percent). You have to take those odds.

Looks to have really good size QB but is still a great athleste. I like that he is pretty stout with bigger legs but can still run well. He doesn't look like he is going to get hurt out there running around. He has really good arm strength and very good accuracy even on the deep ball. Throws very well on the run too.

So Devito starts his redshirt sophmore and junior seasons then heads off to the NFL. Chance comes in to start his redshirt junior and senior seasons. I like it! Reel'em in Dino!

I do like those odds, but I wonder how much geography plays into it. It's easier to stay on top of kid from NJ than it is one from Texas.

Hold on , I believe we have a couple or more QBs offers out there, I think a couple from NJ and one from Ga. and no sure but thought 1 from MI. :noidea:

Doesn't mean the staff only take one QB this cycle.

Very interesting prospect.

I'd expect that if we're bringing him up for a visit this weekend, the staff has him high on the wish list and expects to close. Otherwise, why not wait until summer? Something's afoot here.

His name's kinda girly. Let's sign him up.
Chance Amie. Sounds like an opposing QB that Coach Taylor would spend the week gameplanning for on an episode of FNL. He'd have a great game but then Luke Cafferty would end up intercepting him to seal the victory.

Also, Sir Arbiter, has the board ever nicknamed an entire recruitment before? If possible, I hereby propose:

Looks like he plays for Tyler Lee High School in Tyler, Texas. For those out there with knowledge, what kind of competition and Class is he playing against?

Football in TX goes up to 6A and they compete in 6A. I know a little more about 5A than 6A but looking at their record they were state champs in 2004 but things have been up and down since then with a lot of coaching changes. Last year they went 2-8

lol - so QBs not in the top 25! in the country after their junior year in HS amount to slim pickings? so why do a ton of the QBs in the NFL Draft each season come from smaller name programs? QB is a tough position to project. TD certainly wasn't a top 25 QB when he committed to SU and ED was a late pickup that NOBODY had ever heard of. I could care less if the QB that SU ends up with for this class is among the current top 25 - if Coach Babers decides they are worthy of a scholarship to play quarterback then I like that kid's chances of developing into a very good QB.

SU just scored 61 pts against Pitt with Mahoney at QB. I don't care if it's Rex, Tommy or some non-top 25 QB in this next class - whoever takes the reigns after ED is finished will put up ridiculous numbers as a starter at SU.

His running style reminds me a lot of Jameis Winston, big guy that thinks pass first but has the enough wiggle along with his size that makes him a pain in the @ss to tackle. As for throwing motion it could use a little improvement but decent footwork along with a cannon for an arm makes him a very interesting prospect. You don't just start and put up 27TDs in 6A Texas high school football without being a legitimate prospect at the D1 level. Only concern is that his Passing TDs to Ints was only 10 to 7.

I 100% trust the staff though. Babers churns out great QBs, I'm pretty sure he knows the guys that will thrive in his system.

Last time we got a commitment from a Texas QB, our HC won a bowl game and bolted the next offseason. Let's hope that's not the case this year!

10 to 7 looks suspect at eye level, but then factor in his double digit rushing touchdowns and over 1,00 yards rushing - his numbers look very good.

Yep, and as long as he has the cannon for an arm, Dino and Co. can teach him to aim it.

Good for you. The teams that consistently finish with the best rated recruiting classes in the country also happen to consistently finish as the best teams in the country so good luck with that. Sure, there is 1 or sometimes 2 QBs selected in the top 3 or 4 rounds each year of the draft that were from outside the Power 5. Pretty great odds out of the 60+ schools that are in that grouping. I'd love to be a casino and see you walk in if you think there is good odds of finding great QBs outside the top 25.

If you throw the ball 50+ times per games then you are going to put up huge stats, its not too difficult to throw for 300+ yds a game when all you need to do is average 6 or 6.5 ypa. Having an elite guy at the position is the difference between doing that in a 35-31 loss or a 52-35 win.
