Class of 2015 QB Sheriron Jones (CA) Released from Tenn

UT announced on Jan. 7 that Sheriron was leaving for Colorado, but the Buffaloes announced a few days later that they had released the quarterback from his scholarship. NCAA rules allow a transfer to return to his old program without penalty if he does so within 14 days of the initial transfer

Pete Duffy, Jones' former coach at Rancho Verde High School in Moreno, Calif., told the News Sentinel in January that Jones left Tennessee because of homesickness and he wanted to be in the Pac-12. But he decided after a short time at home for the semester break and a few days at Colorado that he wanted to return to Knoxville.

So this kid is a redshirt Jr.?

Not sure why we would pursue.
Dungey
Culpepper
DeVito
Is a nice top 3 at QB.

I think he'd be a red-shirt sophomore this year. Sit out a year and have 2 years remaining.

I believe would look like this next year

Dungey SR
Jones RJR
Culpepper RJR
DeVito RFR

Redshirt Soph. Would have to sit out a year and have 2 left. We need to pursue everyone with talent as we have 0 sure things currently.

Not sure how it's going to work out for a west coast kid who's home sick, but additional insurance at QB never hurts.

sounds like he had gotten over the homesickness thing since he decided to go back to UT, but not sure how he feels now. Maybe he is homesick again, or maybe he is Butch Jones sick :0

He's 3rd in a 2 horse race of young stud qbs. Looking for a place to have a shot to start before his eligibility runs out.

If he's a redshirt sophomore, then he is in year 3 (redshirt year + freshman and sophomore years) of five years of eligibility. If he transferred he'd have to sit out another year, and as he's already taken a redshirt year, it would count against his eligibility. For Syracuse - or any D1 school - to take him, by the time he'd be eligible to play he'd be a redshirt senior with only one season of eligibility remaining (unless he could somehow get a 6th year for medical reasons, which seems doubtful).

If he graduated high school in 2015 though, it seems like he'd be a redshirt freshman or true sophomore (year 2 of 5 year eligibility clock). If he graduated high school in 2015, he'd have enrolled in college for the 2015-2016 year and now the 2016-17 year. If that's the case, his transfer year would be year 3, and he'd have 2 years at his new school.

This next season is his rs-so season in which he'd need to sit leaving him with 2 to play. No point of referring to him as a rs-fr when that season ended 5 months ago.

With the exception of Dungey and Mahoney all these kids are unkown commodities.

True - the rest are unknown but my gut tells me that Dino sees a 6' 2" kid who has wheels; maybe he had a position change in mind for the young man and he's set on playing QB. That might explain going to a lower level of competition (Sacratomato State)

A bigger, more athletic Kenterius Womack perhaps?

Possibly. But that depends on the player. Is this kid interested in changing positions or would he rather play QB where he can start immediately?:noidea:

If you have to go to Sacramento State to be the starting quarterback, then maybe you aren't meant to be a quarterback.

We are in absolutely no spot whatsoever to turn down any kid that was a recruit on this level 2 years ago. Folks thinking that we are all set at QB are completely lost. What is known is that Dungey avg's about 5 missed games per year thus far, Mahoney is an OK backup during emergency situations. Our 2 freshman are both lotto tickets just like Jones is. The more of them you have, especially with talent that was thought of so highly very recently, the more likely that you can hit on 1 of them.

We can list out all of the guys that we've had in the last 5 or so years that everyone was all excited about and turned into dust: J.Miller, A.Wilson, M.Kimble, A.Edouard, AJ Long. Think we got maybe 1 adequate start from them combined.
