Great win for Beilein - love him as a coach. Only coach to have had 20 wins with junior college, NAIA, NCAA Division2 and NCAA Division 1 teams.

Michigan has had 6 coaches from 1976 to the present while we've fortunately had JB.

Who would have imagined from the entire Fab 5 team that Juwan Howard would have had the longest tenure in the NBA?

Johnny Orr, Michigan basketball's winningest coach left for Iowa St after they inquired about his assistant Bill Freider for the job and Orr discovered they were paying willing to pay Freider more than he was paid at Michigan. Orr said how about me- I'll go instead.

and with Frieder came Roy Tarpley and the beginning of the Ed Martin scandal that nabbed Chris Webber but included many more. A neighbor of mine knew Tarpley and the source of his fancy car.

Hail to the Victors!

As a U of M grad I welcome your random Mich thread Cherie!

I have had to eat some crow on the Beilein front. While seeing Beilein's WVU teams growing up in 'Cuse I thought he was a phenomenal coach, but I didn't think he would be able to recruit at a level that would be able to make us consistently elite. Landing Darius Morris, then Hardaway, Burke, and now Mitch McGary next year...I was flat out wrong.

Can't say I think fondly of Frieder for leaving right before the '89 tourney...but I'm sure he probably regrets it more than anyone.

Along with an obsession with all things 'Cuse, I for some reason was obsessed with the Fab 5 (despite being about 8 years old). They were the biggest reason I became a fan (and ultimately went there)...I still have my silky maize #5 Jalen Rose jersey. I have lost all respect for CWebb however.

Good to see another Michigan alum on the board. Go Blue!

There is reason to believe that Rose took money too.

He did...I think he even admits to taking smaller amounts in the Fab 5 documentary. The difference is just in a level of humility. While Rose fully cooperated with investigators and apologized, CWebb perjured, public attacked a (dead) man who basically was a father figure to him (on top of all the things he gave him), and refuses to admit any wrongdoing whatsoever all to save his own skin. Our AD has even said that if Chris were simply to apologize, it would make a "profound difference" in being able to move on.

If Webber is honest when questioned, there may not have even been an NCAA investigation.

I think Bielein will win a title at Michigan eventually. He is one of the very best coaches in America right now.

Beilein is a great coach. Always gets a lot out of his teams (which usually aren't that talented). Michigan brings in Top 5 recruit Mitch McGary next year. You add him to Hardaway/Trey Burke/Jordan Morgan...and they'll be an absolute title threat. This year I think they've got an outside shot at an Elite 8/Final 4, but they'll more likely be a Sweet 16 type team.

Not really. His teams depend almost totally on shooting from way outside. You can win some games that way but can lose a lot also.

but taking $600K from Ed Martin would still have resulted in crossing out every winning game he played in.

Loser couldn't hack it in Division 3. ;)

Great to see. Class act, good coach. Certainly has worked his way to where he is and his teams style of play typically reflects that.
