Scoring?

We are all over the place in scoring. There is just no consistency from game to game esp. BB, 5-20!

He’s in a shooting funk and I bet JB said keep shooting until you shoot your way out. I didn’t have access to the game so I don’t know if he was closely guarded or doubled. But, overall the starters shooting % stinks. Jimmy's line was OK and he ended up with 21 at almost 50%.

Apologies if the pseudo box is messed up. I have to learn how to keep things in columns where they should be.

////// FG///// 3PT//// FT//// OREB///// DREB ///// PTS

Swider 4-10//// 2-4//// 0/0 //// 3//// 11//// 10

JB 9-17//// 2-5//// 1-1//// 3//// 2//// 21

Jesse 3-7//// 0-0 //// 0-1//// 0//// 5 //// 6

Girard 3 -12//// 2-9 //// 5-5 //// 0 //// 3 //// 13

Buddy 5-20 //// 2-9 ///// 5-5//// 1 //// 6//// 17

Buddy panics if he doesn't score settling for shots either too far out to be made sans a hot streak or tries dribble drive spin fade aways that are tough and well defended. Teams have figured him out. Volume scorer who needs to start PASSING THE BALL.

Huge problem with the entire team, nobody moves without the ball and we need to pass a whole lot more. Nobody will be open if they don’t move. It’s ridiculous.

We don't have anyone who can drive to the basket with any level of speed/quickness. No one who can get downhill to put stress on the opposing defense. Girard, Buddy, and Jimmy can all get near the basket with a lot of dribbles and some decent footwork, but none of that stresses the help-side or secondary defenders.

Buddy can always maneuver himself to get an 8-10 foot shot but he almost never passes off the dribble. Almost all of his assists come after he has determined the he can't take a shot that possession because either the primary defender has shut him off or he has dribbled himself into a double team. We have too many players who only pass when their original offensive move is completely shut off. Then it turns into the "pick up my dribble and look around desperately for someone to hopefully be open" game.

And how many times does Jimmy make a nice move (aka old man multiple YMCA pivot-foot moves) and get a shot off, only to have the shot swatted by a weakside defender that is just waiting to time his shot?

Coach is asking players to do more than they’re capable of. Buddy isn’t the hybrid Klay/Kobe, Joe isn’t a point guard, Swider is a 7th/8th guy, and Jimmy (see Swider). We have plenty of roster spots to have fixed these problems, Symir was never an answer, we knew who Swider and Jimmy were and we added nothing else, by choice. We can blame players for dumb mistakes but these guys aren’t capable of a lot of things. We don’t have one player capable of taking someone off the dribble for a layup, he who is not to be mentioned literally had 80% of his points against UConn today doing just that.

Agree with this. We actually have a collection of players who could be really good supporting pieces on previous great SU teams, but the sum is less than the parts because everyone is being asked to do more than they are capable of, as you point out.

You toss a Carmelo Anthony/Wes Johnson wing and a Billy Edelin/Tyler Ennis PG on this team... wow. Now that is a 10 man rotation. Simple.
