On paper, at least. We needed an experienced corner to add to a young mix -- and we got him, from Georgia!

Here's how I see the secondary shaping up:

Cornerback #1: Kerr -- 6-1 185
Cornerback #2: Peal -- 6-1 190
Safety: Duce -- 6-0 200
Safety: Grant -- 6-4 205
Safety: Martin -- 6-2 195

CB reserves:
  • Samuels -- 6-1 195
  • Singleton -- 6-1 180
  • Delaine -- 6-0 180
  • Washington -- 6-1 190
  • Long -- 6-0 176
  • McDaniels -- 6-3 200
Safety reserves:
  • Buxton -- 6-2 200
  • Perry -- 6-1 190

Felt like CB was the one position of need that wasn't addressed via the portal. And now it has been. Great job by Fran and the coaching staff!

I think Samuels starts over Kerr. Like Kerr but he’s got to develop a lot more.

I could see Kerr still starting over peal too. But who plays the most as the weeks go on will be interesting.
I just know that spring game was not a good showing for corners. Hopefully we can limit pass interference penalty’s and holding if we send 4 this year, last year we would send 3 guys and quarterbacks would have a year to throw it.

The numbers at safety seem low.

I think Washington is being slept on a bit. I thought he had been pushing to start before he got hurt and missed the year.

Several players can play both Corner and Safety.

Martin started at CB in the bowl game, I believe, after we had a bunch of guys portal out. But players like Washington, etc. could make a splash at either position.

Isn’t linebacker still a position of need? They really haven’t done much to improve as far as I can tell.

Sorry if I broke protocol talking about a different position but I was commenting on the poster’s statement “Felt like CB was the one position of need that wasn't addressed via the portal.” Asking about the LB position I would argue is a logical extension to this statement. Also, correct if I’m wrong but isn’t the LB we landed in the portal currently a no show on campus? I may be way off on this one.

Not to derail the thread but how are we feeling, any more areas of need?

On paper -- no.

QB -- check.
WR -- check, check.
OL -- check, check, check, check.
DT -- check, check.
DE / Edge -- check.
LB -- check.
And now CB -- check.

That's just on paper; obviously, the guys have to prove it on the field.
i think kicker could ideally be strengthened.

Im not sure thiskid is an automatic starter. He could or be 3 rd corner.

Definitely need a kicker.
Never felt safe when we punted or kicked a FG.
Playing in a dome we should be able to attract great kickers.
Fran needs to get on this.

Peal has barely played and was a non factor in the spring at UGA. Hard to see penciling him as a starter this fall.

Not really, given that we need a starting CB, and he was one of the top recruits at that position a few years ago.

Some are willing to anoint Samuels with a much less impressive recruiting pedigree, May the best players win the PT

Fran plays a lot of people in the secondary. It’s the sum of all the parts that makes this exciting.

Well it’s the board. Anytime a transfer comes in, automatic starter. It literally happened on each new OL thread. Even with the kid that was horrible for FSU.

I mean, I get it. We have no proven corners. But gat damn it’s rinse and repeat over here.
