2021 top-50 small forward Benny Williams narrowed his final four NCAA Basketball destinations for a commitment.

Benny Williams announced his final four schools Thursday and all of them look to add him as their first recruit of the 2021 NCAA Basketball class.

Williams chose Miami, Maryland, Syracuse, and Georgetown for his shortlist. The four-star small forward from the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School of Maryland earned a Washington Post First Team All-Met honor in leading the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Lions to a Mid-Atlantic Conference regular-season title. The Lions finished the 2019-20 season with a 24-4 (10-2 MAC) record and ranked as the fifth-best team in the Washington Post’s All-Met rankings behind DeMatha, Paul VI, and Gonzaga College High School.

He is ranked as the 10th best small forward and best player in Maryland. The 6-foot-8, 180 pound, recruit can shoot the three-point shot, he protects the rim well and he can run the fast break and score. Teams in this day and age need a versatile wing player who can score inside and out, run the fast break to get his teammates involved, or score himself and hold his own defensively. He just finished his junior season with one more left to go. He will likely be the senior leader for St. Andrew’s in their pursuit of another conference title.

Syracuse Orange

The Syracuse Orange finished the 2019-20 season tied for sixth in the ACC with an 18-14 (10-10 ACC) record. They went on a five-game winning streak in the middle of the season that included No. 18 Virginia, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Pitt. They were led by Elijah Hughes, Buddy Boeheim, Joseph Girard III, and Marek Dolezaj who averaged double-figures in points for the team. Hughes is going pro so the Orange will be without their top scorer as he declared for the NBA Draft March 21.

The Orange secured commitments from four-star combo guard Kadary Richmond and three-star power forward Woody Newton. Both of these players are top five in their states of New Hampshire and Maryland. The Orange have two more spots to fill in their 2020 class and Frank Anselem would be a nice addition at the center position.

For 2021, Benny Williams could be the answer to a thin wing position for the Orange if Dolezaj declares for the draft after next season. The addition of Williams would add a productive and versatile player who could provide instant offense and carry their weight defensively as well.

“If Dolezaj declares for the draft”?
Marek is a Senior - he gone, regardless.

This is the AAU u16 championship from last summer. Benny Williams and Quincy Allen are both on Team Takeover. The game went to double OT.

Benny had 13pts, 2rebs, 1assist, 3/6 FGM/FGA, 3/4 3FGM/FGA, 4/5 FTM/FTA.
Quincy Allen 12pts, 4/10 FGM/FGA, 0/2 3FGM/3FGA, 4/5 FTM/FTA.

Hmmm... this kid committed to Maryland today...
Reese is ranked 112th in the country. Benny is ranked 39th. They are the two forwards from the DC metro area Maryland has offered in the 2021 class. Reese is listed at 6’9 205 pounds. Williams is listed at 6’8 185 pounds. You could argue that they play different positions but I think both are more small forward than power forward today.

Reese is better known as the brother of Angel Reese, who was a top ten recruit in the class of 2020 that came down to Maryland or Syracuse. She eventually settled on the Terps.

They also have 6’8 Jarius Hamilton (BC transfer) who has 2 years of eligibility left.

One of the "funny" things about basketball is landing a quality Big will help you land other players especially wings and PFs, because while they don't want to be the post player they ALL want to play with a post player.

Everyone thinks without a quality big they may be asked to play center, for example Benny plays center on his HS team.

This is the MAC Championship title game from February.

Benny had 15pts, 7rebs, 3blks, 2stls, 7/8 FG/FGA, 1/1 3FG/3FGA. It was a very efficient game he probably only bounced the ball 6 or 7 times. He moved it or shot it.
He looks stronger the than Woody is now. He is a must get absolute MUST!

That was an interesting game to watch.

Benny does not play like a typical top 50 player. He is pretty quiet and laidback.

if I had a top notch player like him on my team, the offense would be built around him and run through him.

But he rarely touches the ball. Spends most of his time in the perimeter. Very odd.

When he did touch it, good things happened. A lot. He is clearly not selfish. Didn’t see much making his own shot. He has an excellent stroke and a reliable mid range jumper. He scored that way or on alley oop passes near the basket.

He wasn’t really physical, didn’t try and post up or demand the ball, didn’t battle for rebounding position down low much.

He had a really nice block early. Very agile, runs the court well. Had a couple nice passes. He didn’t handle the ball much but he brought it up the court a few times and it looks like he will be able to do some of that for us.

My guess is he becomes a reliable 3 point shooter over time. He is fairly skinny now but looks like he has a good frame and will fill out to 220 or 225 down the road.

You can see why SU is recruiting him. He is the classic Syracuse combo forward who can do everything well.

St Andrews played a lot of 2-3 zone. That should ease his adjustment to college.

If we land Benny we’re halfway there!

Dior and Benny locked up.
Need one of Cruz/Westry.
Need one big.

I think Samson is our backup plan if we don’t get Benny
