The kicking game has been a disaster.

Punting is also poor.

Returns have been pretty good. Ditto coverage.

The disorganization, the penalties, a blocked punt when everyone knew it was coming except for our team, a blocked PAT, and no blocked kicks of our own. I also hate not using a QB as the holder. They have better hands and athleticism in case something goes wrong, besides being able to run a fake. We still have 5 QBs even after Tommy left.

The Kicking and Punting are more individual issues.

I believe that if we had a true ST coordinator who focused on that could take a look at Szymt and see what’s happening and try to correct it.

A lot of it has to be in his head and a ST coach could help with that too.

You don’t go from being the best kicker in the nation to being a mediocre kicker at best…..

nope.. it could be all mental as well.. But as good as he kicked in yr one this is probably more the norm just watching the amount of kicks that have not been struck all that solid the last 3 yrs.. Have to think he also works with kicking specialists all season long and off season as most kickers do.

To your top point -- probably a little of both, no single cause.

To your second, might need to scare up new personnel.

I think good, focused coaching could really help Williams make a big jump next year. In high school, he was a consensus 4-5 star, and reading his bio, it looks like place kicking could have been his strong point (has a 57 yard FG). I've been down on the kid, too, but he could be a really good one once he gets rid of the freshman jitters.

Keep Williams for field goals. Get an ausi kicker for punts.

I'm torn on kickoff coverage defense. Is it because we intentionally never kick it into the end zone for touch backs or is it because we are incapable of kicking it into the end zone. I watch other teams and they kick like every kick off into the end zone and we do it like 1/3 of the time.

You don’t have to kick it in the end zone to get a touchback, but I don’t think we are doing that on purpose.

There was a good article from P-S on special teams. Changing holders sometimes messes up the kicker. Nick Sciba is still a beast but he changed holders last year.

He's still a machine but I do think having a new holder is a factor.
