I guess it’s just another starting lineup or rotation thread. And we had all offseason to speculate etc...

What the starting lineup will probably be

PG-JG3
SG-Buddy
SF-AG
PF-Marek
C-Sidibe

But hear me out, about 10 years ago we had a solid starting lineup with Scoop and Kris Joseph always coming off the bench seemingly together a few minutes into the game. That squad was in the top 10 seemingly all year. Then you have Waiters as the 6th, Fair and Grant for a few years, etc..The best Syracuse teams we have, we always have a bench that can score and always have a dominate or scoring 6th man.

Obviously we are just fans and JB knows what he is doing but I think we have a team this year that can do something like that. I think a lineup of:

PG-JG3
SG-Buddy
SF-Marek
PF-Quincy
C-Sidibe

Then have AG and Richmond come off the bench in the Scoop, Kris Joseph role. AG will give us that 6th man punch we have been lacking the last few years that all great syracuse teams seem to have. What’s great about this team is versatilityObviously AG will then get starter minutes and Richmond can be that role guy that fills in for either guard spot when needed. Then you can plug Frank, Jesse or JBA in at forward when need be. We have options this year and it should be fun.

your second makes a lot of sense, especially given that griff with the ability to play both wing spots and kadary all three perimeter spots makes them ideal 6th men.

i know the common objection: he didn't transfer in to come off the bench. and i know that is the exact situation that made geno thorpe bail.

but it still might be the best option

Agreed that’s why I think the first lineup is more probable. I just like the second lineup because that’s a strong starting 5 and then you have some punch coming off the bench. You can always look at Dion and say he came off the bench and still got drafted 3rd overall. I’m not saying AG is Dion. But he is a solid player and scorer. Undoubtedly would get starter minutes but it’s just a hassle for other teams to have to game plan around a bench player as well and he would be a hell of a punch off the bench as well as Kadary.

The second lineup would have trouble dribbling the ball up the court. Really doubt Marek spends much time at the 3.

There will be deserving players who aren't starters. A good thing.

As long as the wins keep pouring in, it should be good.

But given the current transfer-crazy climate, will be tough to keep everyone's eyes from wandering if they arent playing.

I hope there's a deep rotation this year.

That team with onuaku went what 10 deep???

I would rather have a deep rotation than any specific starting lineup.

i don't care what position you want to assign him; in either lineup marek would be the 3rd ballhandler
He's the third ball handler over JG, Buddy, and AG?

Rather than starters, I’m interested in the root word “start”. Like let’s start the season and hopefully have it be reasonably normal and entertaining. It’s my favorite time of year for sports and I don’t want it too tainted please.

The 2010 team with Arinze really only went 7 deep with Kris and Scoop off the bench, but it was like we had 7 starters. Our 8th guy was Dashonte but he really only got minutes when the event that I hate to talk or think about happened. It was our 2012 team that was insanely deep with our bench being Dion, MCW, CJ, Southerland, and Baye. Honestly that second lineup would have still probably finished in the top half of the Big East that year.

we’ll see what happens with QG and AG. That’s the only position up for grabs at the moment but this year I actually expect a lot of bench play from what I’m told. Jesse. Kadary. And whoever is 6th man in QG or AG. I would be completely shocked if they don’t play 8 guys quite often throughout the whole year. Way more trust this year in Jesse and AG brings some experience already. Kadary is killing it in practice and expect him to play decent amount. Don’t know where Braswell plays to be honest. I hope he gets a chance but AG kinda killed those hopes. Expect this team to run a lot more than other years. I expect QG to get the nod for starting lineup with AG first man off bench or if team zones them up. All I have for now for the practice report

Great stuff. I really hope the pandemic doesn't end up destroying what looks like a very promising season potentially.

Well, it seems Braswell has his chance to play himself into the rotation by outperforming AG, if that's a reasonable possibility. I think we know he can hit the three...so which one is better, more consistent? If they're about equal, then there's rebounding variable. We know AG is a good rebounder, but can Braz match, or even exceed him at this important task?

For Braz, it's all there in front of him. Can he outplay this new guy? If he's only just as good, AG will likely get the nod, cuz experience, but he could find a role as a 3pt specialist on occasion. It's a big opportunity/challenge for him. Can only help to improve his game...

It's probably instructive that we haven't heard any buzz about Braswell impressing in practice, but then again, we haven't head much of anything at all, for that matter, except that Kadary has impressed & JG has had many impressive practices. Would sure like to hear some more practice reports... :/

Not to derail the thread, but I had completely forgot about Geno Thorpe. It's kind of crazy that he went from averaging 15 ppg at USF to quitting basketball after 6 games at SU.

I am curious to see if Braswell can get some minutes also. He was nursing some injury and with a year to recover and mature... we'll see.

Braswell will get minutes if he can make a case for being the 9th guy. Be a guy when you need more size but also be able to be a major threat to score. I think that if we come out and are a winning team again that it would be more likely he could see real minutes than if we struggle and survive.

Thanks for the report.

Have heard the same about both Jesse and Kadary. From what I'm hearing, the coaches were surprised at Jesse's improvement jump when he returned. That he's getting it done against an experienced senior in Sidibe, who is also playing well, shows that it's legit. Practices have been competitive between those two. Good development for the team.

I don't think that Braswell is going to ever get on the floor -- not with Marek, Griffin, and Quincy ahead of him. I'd expect him to explore transferring, especially if he's able to not lose a year of eligibility due to COVID-19.

He could outplay Quincy, too, who is coming off surgery to cure a muscular injury. Quincy couldn't jump at the end of last season. I hope Braswell gets a shot to contribute. He's been in the program a long time now.

I just have trouble seeing us starting 3 guys who can’t/don’t shoot the 3. We started Jackson and AO together 10 years ago and even that was pushing it a bit for the era as far as having two purely inside bigs in there together- a lot of times we played better when we took one of the them out and had Wes and Joseph at the forwards.

Unless QG or Marek has really improved into a solid 3 point shooter, it’s hard to see AG not starting. IMO.

Hmm...first I'm hearing of this. I'm trying to reconcile it with another report I caught earlier that said FA has been penciled in as Sidibe's sub, so much has he has impressed. Could we be so lucky as to have all three playing at a high level?
