The frosh Washington, who had a terrific first half, hits a 3 at the buzzer to give Syracuse a 31-30 lead.

Ohio dominated almost the entire half until a late flurry of 3s by Syracuse got them back in the game.

Ohio has no big people. They are basically playing 5 guards against Syracuse but used their quickness to overset the height disparity.

Lewis, who is taking over as the starting PG with Tiana on the mend, had a horrific start to the half and was largely responsible for Syracuse falling more than 10 point behind. She played a little better late. She is quick and really likes to shoot.

Alexander played well in limited minutes. She can shoot. Washington also looks like a fine outsider shooter.

Engstler appears to have put on some bad weight. She had a bad first half and it looks like her struggles on defense last season are going to stay with her for a while longer.

Finklea-Guity missed a bunch of gimmes and was a mess for a long while but got some rebounds and scores inside. Djaldi-TabdI who looked so promising last season barely played. Why?

Strautmane was pretty much a noun factor.

Cooper was quiet but hit a 3 late.

Whisper Fisher only played a little and really struggled in those minutes.

Hymen is hurt and did not play.

Colome, the transfer from URI, only played a little. Don’t think she even tried a shot.

Our defense remains really bad. We don’t move our feet and stay in front of people and major gaffes happen with just about every possession. JB would have his head explode like in Scanners if he were the coach.

Wish Kadiatou Sissoko hadn’t left for Rhode Island, was looking forward to seeing how she developed after missing part of last season injured. Too bad she left to go with Reiss. Didn’t get to the game but really disappointed to hear that Emily Engstler not only hasn’t gotten into game shape this year but has gained more weight. Such high hopes when she chose us - have to wonder how much she really loves the game. 9 rebounds in 16 minutes is impressive but if she slows down the game on both ends of the floor and can’t shoot (1 for 6)- not good.

Sissoko was a great athlete, reminded me of Sykes. Really sad she decided to leave too.

Q pressed Ohio in the second quarter. Thought it was a bad idea given Ohio was smaller and faster than Syracuse but it sped up the pace of the game, changing it from a half court game to a full court game. We looked a lot more comfortable playing fast, especially Lewis, who got Burke in foul trouble and took over the game.

Ohio had little depth and the press seemed to get them worn down too. They were done by th time the fourth quarter started. Ohio has a bunch of excellent outside shooters but they shot poorly in the Dome last night. If they shot even so so, it could have been a really close game. Good win; Ohio won 30 last year and is considered one of the top teams in the MAC.

I bet we press a lot this season. Need to get this team running to play at their best. They do not look good in half court settings.
