FACT: Syracuse is 116-25 the last four seasons (2008-2009 to present). They have only lost three times to non Big East teams: Cleveland State hit that 70' buzzer beater in '08, Blake Griffin led Oklahoma in '08(sweet 16) and too eventual runner-up Butler without our starting center (AO) in '10 (sweet 16).

Their non conference record over that span is 57-3. They beat UNC, Florida(3x), Michigan(2x), NC ST, Kansas, Virginia, Memphis, Cal, Michigan St in that span.

We will be fine.

I have faith we can do some damage, do you?

And probably one of the best big men they've ever had as a frosh coming in next year that isn't named Derrick. Coleman has such great hands and feet for an 18 year old.

The parallels to the late 80s are amazing. We are at a peak of the program's success and yet you can just feel the earth crumbling under your feet. The program has cycles:

a) Average to Good performance for a period
b) Recruiting ramps up
c) Outstanding performance for a period leading to a crescendo
d) NCAA investigation/scandal
e) Recruiting tanks
) repeat

For all the world it seems like this latest Melo suspension officially transitioned us from point c to d (although we do have an already signed good class coming in next year). Combine this with JB's impending retirement and move to the ACC and it could spell the effective end for Syracuse as a major player in college basketball. Note: I am not saying this will happen, but rather that the combined forces pushing on this program right now and in the near future dramatically increase the odds of a total collapse.

As I was terribly worried about when the Fine stuff happened: it would cause everyone and their sister to go through the program's dirty dishes with a microscope. I'll bet that no top level D1 program could withstand that scrutiny. I knew other shoes would drop. The drugs thing was that. We have every reason to believe that more issues/problems/scandals will follow.

The drugs thing was self-reported to the NCAA 18 months ago!!!

As for your "cycle", I don't think you are looking at things objectively. You have proven your hypothesis in your mind already and are only looking at facts that support it while ignoring those facts that might refute it.

I'll accept that. I'm hella depressed like most others. Just feel like this great run we have been on is about to come crashing down. I don't know of any program ever absorbing a series of gut punches like this.

Maybe we are actually like Rocky in that phase of all his fights where he just stands there getting pummelled into hamburger only to turn it around and lay down an epic whooping on Drago or Clubber Lang or whoever.

Right now, in my head I am hearing the bells ringing at the beginning of the Rocky theme song. Ding, ding, ding...
