Last night I had the privilege to dine with the Orange Women's basketball team for their team dinner. Tonight they are playing ASU in Tempe.
I have to say how impressed I was with this group of women. They are smart, polite, well spoken and are a group we should be proud to have represent our university. The two freshman sitting closest to me, are both pre-med students. One plans to go into plastic surgery and is a bio major, and the other is majoring in early childhood development and psychology. She wants to be a pediatric anesthesiologist, and explained that her undergrad degree was to help her learn how to best deal with the small children she will eventually be working with.
I also was very impressed with all of the members of the coaching staff and the other staff that traveled with the team.
Tonight the #20 Orange Women play #24 ASU. I am looking forward to seeing the talents I have heard so much about from this dynamic group of athletes. You should listen to this game on the stream through OAA. They deserve our attention.

Good game tonight. I will be watching

Hey llandz, I gave your old buddy, Miami Mike, a hello from you. I hung out at his establishment Saturday night. He sends his regards.

Actually I think every one on here who lives in Syracuse should make an effort to attend at least one women's game this season if not more. They are a great group and could use our support. This team has been gaining momentum and are perceived as an elite women's team now. It is time we start filling the stands for them.

Tough loss for the Orangewomen tonight 60-63 to #25 ASU at their place. Beside the usual contributions from Brianna Butler and Brittney Sykes, frosh /C Briana Day scored 7 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks. With her continued improvement just need to go get a quality point guard in next year's recruiting class. Coach Q might actually be building a FF team for next year or the year after.

Cheers,
Neil

Tough loss. They played well

Very tough loss. Bad offensive foul called at end that was clearly a block. Where have we seen that call ruin a game. Cough cough Atlanta. Ref right on top of it starts to call it a block but then seems to be confused and defers to the ref who was standing somewhere out of the building. He had no clear view so might as well make a home team call. Happened right under our noses. Tough break for the girls who were just slightly out of sync at times tonight. At times you could see the brilliance and talent. Just enough off that a bad call ruined a great game. Overall a great weekend for the AZ alum.
PLEASE make an effort to attend some games. They were very entertaining and exciting to watch. You will enjoy yourselves.

Want to thank Llandz for setting up a memorable evening - my son's 1st live Syracuse game (he just turned 6). After a heartbreaking loss - in large measure due to missed FT's (I told my son to get used to that, it's Syracuse hoops after all), we got to go down to the floor. He got a picture taken with Floyd Little. And then the BIG treat - all of the team came back out and signed a team poster for him and other kids. Wrote "To Alex" on the top and each player put their number on the poster. He then ran up to Llandz and gave her a huge hug. So... instead of reading him a story and putting him to bed late last night - he put the poster out and then had me look up each player by number, tell him her name and stats, and then we had to talk about each one at length.

I've followed SU all my life, and in truth, have never watched, much less attended a women's game. To my discredit. It was eye opening. Really fun. Good, tough game. And a lot of desire on the court. Kind of reminded me of the purity of the game. And great value for the money if you have a family.

When they got down by 8 or 9 in the 1st half, my son started to tear up. An alum in front of us very nicely said, "you need to cheer more - they need you right now! So he did, and the team came roaring back. And my son shattered some ear drums with his screams. My wife (who went as well) said to my son at the end of the game, You are still going to Harvard. He replied, I'm not going to Harbor mommy. I'm Orange.

Llandz is an incredible fan and credit to the University. She repeatedly got the 100 or so Cusians up on our feet chanting LGO! She brought orange pom poms and orange face stickers for the kids, put out reserved seating signs and was generally a whirlwind at the event. And finally, the women's team are terrific. Very polite and engaging. And talented. Just need to work on those FT's!

That's just awesome. Sounds like a great job by all involved.

Thank you Cactus. Your post bought tears to my eyes. Cactus aka Andy has the cutest kid you will ever meet, and I can just imagine the bedtime events, and the "Harbor" comment. Thank you for the kind words. It was a great night!!
I even bought the student team manager home for the night, as he was stranded with a morning flight to LA for vacation and was going to spend the night at the airport. My wonderful husband drove him to the airport at 6am this morning. This is what the "Orange" family is all about.
