From the AP article today on syracuse.com: Fans can only marvel at what they see on the court: a rotation of 10 players, and — unlike the bickering on Boeheim’s only national championship team in 2003 — not a single frown.

I remembered it was a little tricky getting Billy Edelin into the rotation, but I never heard that our championship team had trouble getting along. Is this really and for true?

GMac and Melo didn't exactly see eye to eye on a lot of things...

I don't recall there being much friction at all, certainly not compared to the 2001/2002 team. I think the AP writer was off by a year in his recollection.

I believe the story goes that GMac and Carmelo were not seeing eye to eye at the time, and it peaked during the game at Miami in early February. It was soon patched up and the rest is history.

I remember a story from after the NC that stated Boeheim had to have a sit-down with Gmac, Melo and Billy during the season about some tensions, but I don't think it was a super big deal.

GMac and Melo were fine until Billy came back. Billy and Melo were HS teammates and close friends; Melo thought BE should be the PG, that didn't sit well with GMac.

After one of GMacs 3s in the NCAA title game in the first half, BE and GMac were at the top of hte zone together and gave each other emphatic high-5s, that's when I knew we were gonna win it.

They went to Oak Hill but were not teammates.

Correct. In fact, I think that story came out last year on syracuse.com. Edelin, GMac and Melo all had chemistry issues. The coaches held a meeting with those three and they hammered out the problems between them.

Cost us that rutgers game. melo threw a pass to a covered Edelin rather than a wide open g-mac.

Did Melo pass to Edelin? I remember it as Melo dribbling the full length of the court and then hoisting up a miserably off-balance three that didn't come close.

This was what I remembered reading. JDubs, I loved your recollection from the title game!

I had always heard that there were a number of conflicts within the team.

If the play in question is the final 3 that missed melo did not pass to anyone. After laminzana banked in the 3 melo slowly brought the ball up court showing no sense of urgency and jacked up a bad 3 that didnt come close. I remember it so well cuz I was screaming at the tv for melo to hurry up. The only time that season he pissed me off haha

I remember a bit of drama with Gmac and Melo - especially after the Pitt game at Pitt.

Kids will be kids just goes to show How mature this team is.
Still we are looking for that second go to guy right now IMO.

2010 was the best team chemistry I've seen ever at Cuse; although this team is getting close.

I disagree. The 09-10 team didnt have any true extroverts or outspoken players. The chemistry you speak of had more to do with the fact that no one had the type of personality to complain. This year's team is similar with the exception of Dion. Since Dion has bought into the team concept, this year's team is better (and throw in Cooney redshirting and Scoop not playing as many minutes...but buying into the bigger picture).

I disagree about the '09-'10 team. Andy Rautins was a very vocal leader. In fact, he was very much a leader on the previous year's team.

Only real "rift" I knew about the team, and it wasn't a dislike rift, was between Melo and GMac only because Melo wanted his buddy Edelin to play more. Once JB reminded who was getting the ball to Melo all the time before Edelin came back, all was fine.

Absolutely. That team fit together like a glove on and off the court, the acceptance of roles, no PT issues, no egos, etc. While this team is having a great time and buying into everything, I am sure 20-0 has something to do with it. I am sure Dion isn't 100% happy not starting nor with the minutes. I am sure Triche, MCW and Rak aren't completely happy with their minutes. There is nothing wrong with the chemistry on this team and it is actually great and probably better than most teams out there, but it isn't like 2009/2010.

I am sure 30-5 had something to do with the chemisty in 2010.

Here is the story.

Melo came in thinking he was gonna be "the man." He was a bit taken about when the fans adopted GMac as their faveorite. It culminated at the famous game at RU. Melo took a horrid shot at the end... rather than passing to a wide-open GMac -- and we lost. Kueth Duany (team captain) called a "players only" meeting ... and explained to the players what a team was. Things turned around after that... culminating in the the Pitt (three court-stormings) game a few weeks later... and then in the march to the NC. Kueth was an unsung hero in all that.

There's nothing wrong with conflict--the key is what people do with it.

Not every team has great chemistry. In fact, most don't. Its a credit to those players that they were able to use the conflict constructively and move past it, rather than a black mark on them.

I agree with LTF; Rautins was very much the leader. Wes very easily could have had reasons to complain, you could say he was better than Dion is right now.

That team was just incredible, I don't know if I'll ever get over that Butler game.

*cking Georgetown.
