Is that we look vulnerable.

Virginia isn't going to have a good season. They don't have many chances at wins. We're one of their best chances. I expect them to try to capitalize.

Pitt's in better shape, but not by much. They want a bowl too. We look like one of their best chances to add wins. The expect their best.

NC State has been exposed, but they can still make a bowl. Look at their schedule, put yourself in their cleats, and ask yourself where they think the wins they need can come from. We're on that list. I expect them to do everything they can to beat us.

Boston College has to claw out everything. I promise they're looking at us and thinking they can be dudes against our team. They need some more wins to keep their train rolling. They're not going to let an opportunity to play a vulnerable team like us pass by.

We can do this. We have enough talent to make it happen. But that loss yesterday hurt more than our chances of bowl eligibility. We went from "oh, maybe that's going to be a tough game" after LSU to giving teams an invitation to lick their chops.

What yesterday did was make the UVA game a must win for the program and the staff. We all know SU isn't beating fsu or Clemson or lville as such we at worse had to split the use and Virginia games. If SU loses Saturday there's a good chance the season could spiral especially with the schedule being as tough as it is. The pro Shafer guys made some good points explaining away the loss Saturday but a loss next week and the wheels are likely off.

I think they could salvage things with a win over Pitt, but this week is big.

I am going to lay off the coaches as I said I would. I just want to see some things cleaned up and improvements each week. Our offense looked good in the 2nd half. I will say one of biggest weaknesses and this has been the way since 2002 is we have such a small margin for error. That gets annoying but it is a fact. We really need to recruit more talent.
We aren't going to get 5 star talent but we need to get the talent that teams like NC State and Virginia are getting. We spent less money keeping SS as HC now we need to invest some money in him giving him a staff that can recruit.

Without a win Saturday I see no realistic path to becoming bowl eligible. Not that SU can't beat Pitt ncst and Bc but the gauntlet schedule of fsu lville Clemson will likely have thus team exhausted and god knows down how many people going into the last few games. That's why Going into Pitt with 5 wins would have been so critical.

I think the loss is far more of an issue that "looking vulnerable."

Losing to LSU but playing tough with a walk-on QB got some people thinking we were far better than we are.

We ARE vulnerable and that was the case in the first snap versus Rhode Island.

I can see SU being 5-6 going into the BC game.

This loss was just deflating. Can't see the community rallying around that team that showed up Saturday. I hate to say I'm apathetic but I almost just don't care anymore until we get a new coaching staff in here. I'd assume a lot of people feel this way and that's a huge consequence of not only losing, but losing like we did. I just can't get worked up because I feel like our staff is JV and our "athletes" are way overrated on this board. For all of this "amazing" recruiting, we don't seem any closer to competing in the upper half of the ACC than we did when we joined.

It's just tiring. Cuse Football is a chore and has been for a while.

I may have to agree with you...
Have we been bad for so long that we are confusing average for excellence? Would Dungey, Fredericks, Estime, Ishmael and Philips be "just guys" on most other P5 rosters?
So no talent advantage and our coaching staff over matched against most peer schools doesn't bode well...

I don't think Dungey/Fredericks/Estime/Ishmael/Philips are All-Americans, but I do think there's something there.

Hey, I hear you, we haven't had their quality in most years for 2 decades, right? But, are they truly special or guys that populate most P5 rosters across the country?

I think they are, I think we don't have the depth yet behind them. I think that's what separates the upper crust P5. The dropoff isn't that severe between spots on the depth chart.

I think we can compete with everyone on our schedule. Not afraid of those schools and I doubt our staff or players feel that way either. It's our fans who bail at a moments notice.

I think every one of those guys would play for 85% of the p5 teams.

That's an unfair statement. We've been complete trash for a decade. Don't give me pinstripe bowls, nobody cares about that.

Shafer gives me no reason to think we're trending upward and while I hope I'm wrong, I feel like people are grasping at straws right now.

Hey - to each his own I guess. I've been rooting my arse off for two decades. I don't think I need to write off any games as losses just to save myself from disappointment.

Success is damn sweeter this way ;)

Imo the biggest consequences are: - the complete collapse of my 3 day weekend just as it was getting started - the dark cloud that will now hang over my week - the emptiness inside that has replaced my feelings of hope

Let me help: young teams are inconsistent. What if Dungey and the offense play a complete game (which they haven't done yet)?

Forget afraid that Clemson game looks terrifying.
I know your a huge fan of this staff but you know we're not beating fsu or Clemson and probably not lville either. Teams that give up 45 to directional Florida aren't beating fsu or Clemson.

This is negative and not acceptable

One of the reasons I haven't commented almost at all especially the week leading up to USF... Everyone was so hyped up about the play against LSU. I was too but it didn't mean a lot moving forward, to me. We've played well in the past against much better teams and barely lost, then went on to have an up and down season (USC/PedState/just off the top of my head). , one year the last game of the season, we let a sh!tty Uconn team kick the crap out of our defense most of the game and then finished it off watching Edsall dance like a ballerina.

I have no idea what we are going to see the rest of the year and that's been true since the first year of DM. We get some promising halves and performances from either one unit or the other. Then it always seems to be followed up with duds and head scratching game plans.

I was hoping we had turned a corner, I have no clue right now. This game for me was going to be very telling. I don't recall anyone on the board trying to reign anyone in on USF being a game we could potentially lose. Until we actually lost, everyone thought we were going to walk all over USF. Now I'm looking to this weekend as the game to tell me whether we are heading in the right direction. I think the reality is at this point, we won't have any idea what we have with this staff until the end of the year.
