- We missed 10 of our first 15 free throws, which is completely ridiculous. The whole game would have been a breeze if we were even decent at the line. And it was everybody, or nearly so. Tyus battle, our best free throw man at 81%, was 1 for 4. Buddy Boeheim missed one. Marek Dolezaj missed 2. Oshae Brissett missed one. They are all normally good from the line. Chukwu is not great but came in at 62.5%, (and he’s made some big ones) and he was 2 for 6.
- Frank Howard hit from the line, 9, (4 for 4) but was only 2 for 9 from the field after showing signs of regaining his form against Duke.
- We had 14 turnovers and none by our point guard. Battle and Chukwu had 4. Brissett had 3 and Hughes 2. This team turns the ball over too much. It negates the turnovers we get from the other team, which is supposed to make up for the difficulties in rebounding from a zone.
- Oshae Brissett was 3 for 8 from two and had 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. He had 13 double-doubles last year and got within a rebound of 7 more. This year, he has 4 D-Ds and needed a rebound for 3 more and we are past the half-way point of the season. He’s just not taking over games the way he’s capable of doing. He has the best combination of size and ability of anybody on our team, including battle, but he disappears for long periods. That wasn’t happening last year. He could take us to the heights but he’s got to take himself there first.
- The refs let ‘em play, (until the end, when Pitt was playing hack-a-cuse). Unfortunately, they also let ‘em trip and wrestle our guys to the ground. Good ol’ Pitt. Good ol’ refs.
