- Is this really a good team yet? They have plenty of heart but do they have plenty of DART? There’s are so many painfully bad plays: blocked passes, blocked kicks, bad tackles, turnovers, open receivers, dumb penalties. Could you say to the fan of an upcoming team that his team better watch out for us?
- The drops in the first half were particularly discouraging. Adam Terry said “A few weeks ago, they catch those.” It seemed we were headed for another dismal end of the season and drops and also the penalties, (11 for 96 yards), that suggested a loss of focus. At one point we were lining up for a third down play and #72, Mark Petry, suddenly stood up and walked into our own backfield. Adam Terry said it was the strangest thing he’d ever seen.
- Allen’s great but he’s our whole rushing game. We are used to Dungey and Shrader playing a two-man game with the running back, leaving the defense not knowing which running back had the ball. McCord can occasionally slip out and make a first down but he’s got 93 positive yards in 8 games, (-48 with sacks). Other running backs have totaled 237 yards. LeQuint has run for 602 net yards, 72% of what the various running backs have provided. Even 602 is 75 yards a game. You’re never going to have a really productive running game with one guy, any more than you’d have a really productive passing game with one receiver.
- The defense made some huge, game-winning plays, (we finally reversed the turnover tide). But the tackling is still horrible 8 games into the season. There was a lot of hard-running by Tech backs, (especially #24, Malachi Thomas). But there were lots of whiffs, arm-tackles, bad angles, bad positioning, tacking standing straight up with their guy putting a shoulder into our guys and carrying them for extra yards, etc. That play just before the half where Jeremiah Coney ran 47 yards to the SU 7 and our guys just assumed he would run into the locker room rather than across the goal line absolutely pissed off Coach Brown. Are we a good defense?
- Wasn’t Fadil Diggs supposed to be a major force in these games. He was in OT vs. UNLV bu otherwise, MEH. He made four tackles in this game, none for a loss. He has 4 sacks in 8 games. He makes a play and runs off the field because he’s part of a rotation. Is Marlowe Wax part of a rotation?
- Oronde Gadsen had 2 catches for 18 yards. That’s after getting 3 catches for 33 yards vs. Pitt. He ahs 35 catches in 8 games but hasn’t scored since the Georgia Tech game.
- Tech played this game without their starting quarterback, Kyron Drones and their leading rusher, Brayshul Tuten. Without them, they got Coach P’s standard with 249 yards rushing and 206 passing. Could we do that?
