The Downside- West Virginia

- We lost because Buddy lost the magic, Marek got in foul trouble, we got out-rebounded by 12, Alan Griffin came up empty again, we forgot how to inbound the ball and we missed two free throws in the final seconds. Except we didn’t lose…

- I thought it was a mistake to put Marek back in for the final offensive possession of the first half with 2 fouls. Then Marek made the mistake of trying to draw a charge up 8 with 5 seconds to go. It set up the drama of the second half.

- Griffin’s last three games: 6 points, 1 for 10 from the field and 3 rebounds in 38 minutes. Rosey Bouie on the post-game show was wondering what this team could have been with Oshae Brissett and Elijah Hughes. Hughes is the big one for me. He was such a reliable performer last year. People had hoped griffin would replace him. Not even close.

- Why couldn’t we figure out how to get the ball inbounds and advance against the press in the final two minutes?

- Joe Girard!!! You’re supposed to be Mr. Automatic at the line!

- The fouls evened out at the end but West Virginia got away with a lot more physical play than we did. Some possessions looked like an MMA fight.

- The first weekend is like walking across hot coals to get to the second weekend. In the Sweet 16, where our season has ended 12 times, (we are 7-12 there, although we’ve won 3 of the last 4). Every team in the Sweet 16 is a good team and every team in the Sweet 16 is a confident team. The farther you go, the harder it gets.
