The Irishman

Is anyone else as pumped as I am for this movie? Not sure it will be Goodfellas but should be darn good.

Definitely excited but most of all just really hoping that everyone's not too far past their prime that its depressing.

Yeah... but these guys are tailor-made for the roles they have. As actors it is about as close to muscle memory as they can get.

I’d wager they nail it. And if they do, this will be an instant classic.

not sure yet but i was hoping to see motherless brooklyn and thats not showing near me.

Does everyone have a local theater who's showing the movie or are you all stuck waiting most of the month for Netflix like I am?
I can catch it in Philly at the Ritz5. A mere 25 minute train ride from me. Does’t appear to open until next Friday. I’ve watched a lot of background historical videos to get ready

The Mob had complete control of Reading, Pa probably under Bufalino. Go to you tube and watch the reports

If you guys want an interesting read, grab this book from your library. It's about an undercover state trooper who infiltrated the mob within the Jersey trucking companies, and then became an NBA ref for over 20 years. You guys would like it.

If anyone is expecting casino or goodfellas its not that. Many comedic elements. Didnt feel like 3 and 1/2 hours to me. I personally really enjoyed it. Didnt feel like that long either. Recommend

I loved it. Deniro and Pesci killed it. Pacino was OK but it felt like Godfather 3-Michael Corleone doing impression of Jimmy Hoffa.

My only issue is that in one scene it’s hilariously obvious that Robert Deniro is playing someone much younger than he actually is.

It was when he was beating up the grocer. That was a joke.

I thought Pacino was pretty good. Helped that I had low expectations for his performance; I was fully expecting Nicholson-as-Frank-Costello level of ridiculousness, but he did well. Though he did keep switching accents mid-sentence.

I really wanted to see it in a movie theater but I would have had to go to Philly. I never made it. I was at my daughter's house for Thanksgiving and they have cut the cord. At 10:00 PM I turned on the TV and it immediately showed Netflix and I clicked on The Irishman.

Good movie. I loved the story. I view it as more of documentary than a movie. Pacino did not look like Jimmy Hoffa. Joe Pesci was terrific. I really didn't buy into the aging thing. Special effects might of made Deniro look younger but he still moved like a 70 year old man.

If it is true, what a thing to do to Chuckie O'Brien. As my Dad always told me. "If you're in for a dime you're in for a dollar".

Went in with tempered expectations given the hype and came away thinking it was about what i expected.

Nothing close to Goodfellas, Casino or The Departed but not awful. Unfortunately, it was a very Netflixy film in that everything was just average.

It was distracting to me how obvious DeNiro's 70 something movement betrayed his playing a younger character.

He was otherwise fine but any physical scene, including the one mentioned up-thread, was borderline cartoonish.

Pacino's over-acting was disappointing and, combined with his makeup, made him come across more like his Dick Tracy character than the real Jimmy Hoffa.

Pesci was the best of the bunch, by far. Completely authentic.

It was about 40 minutes too long and certain characters' obsession with Peggy Sheeran made little sense to me. Came across as bizarre and creepy.

how bad are the violent scenes in this? I was going to watch it last weekend but wasn't sure I was up for peoples heads/fingers/arms getting cut or blown off.

Not bad at all, on par with The Departed.

I dont remember the name but it was the last hit in the film they showed a close up of the victims face that was a little off-putting but that's it. the violence isn't really over the top.
