This is a look at the Godfather from the side of the producer team that put it together as a film.. I find it pretty fascinating just how how hard a time they had getting this done in a timely manner. 3 episodes in so far next one is thursday..

I find it really well done.

really no one is watching this ? its really well done , The Brando scene was pretty cool to see if thats the way it really happened.

Never got into The Godfather series. Yes I know it’s a classic and everything. But I grew up on Goodfellas and The Godfather seems like a cheap knockoff in comparison. And yes I realize that if anything is a knockoff, it is Goodfellas. It’s just that I saw Goodfellas first. And there is one scene in Godfather that makes me not be able to take the film seriously: the one guy is in a street fight beating up the other guy for hitting his wife/sister-in-law (I think) and it’s the big dramatic fight scene and they film it an angle where you can see the punch misses by 2 feet. And somehow they’re like “yeah good enough, let’s leave that shot in the movie.”

The Godfather (1 & 2) is one of those movies I'll always stop on. So well written and filmed. I am also fascinated by The Offer. I had heard the stories about acceptance by the Mafia and also the difficulties with Hollywood. I've always been interested in the behind the scenes aspects of TV and movie production. People elevate actors and movie stars specifically into mythic people but they're not much different than us and the movies they make are just their job and they always have to be on the lookout for their next job. I also enjoy hearing about the fight over certain roles. Thank goodness Deniro didn't get a role in The Godfather or he never would have been able to play Vito in Part 2. (This hasn't been mentioned yet in The Offer so I'm not spoiling anything).

As far as Godfather vs Goodfellas...Godfather is about "family and business." Goodfellas is about "crime and violence." Love both movies, personally prefer the subtleness of The Godfather.

The movie I'd like to see made is one focusing on the Johnny Fontaine character who is a huge part of the book but a bit role in the movie for reasons The Offer explains. There is a lot left unexplored there and would be closer to Goodfellas or Casino than the original movie.

Don’t forget Million Dollar Baby.

I really enjoyed the show. Finished last night. The dinner scene the night before they started shooting was an instant classic.

Made the mistake of starting Part I afterwards. It was already after midnight. It’s tough finding a good stopping point in that movie. Every scene is fantastic. I made it all the way to Sicily, LOL.

Yes, it was easy when it was two VHS tapes.

Assuming Fontaine is based on Sinatra, Scorcese tried his best to make that biopic but the Sinatra sibs wouldn’t green light any scripts he offered up (offers they obviously could refuse).

We watched The Offer and enjoyed it. Gives a great perspective on the Godfather and how hard it is to make a movie. I never realized Bob Evans was such a strange character but it was a different era. Same for Puzo, who didn't have a dime to his name, and Francis Ford Coppola who was a relative unknown.

I thought Juno Temple, who played Betty, stole every scene she was in, and coincidentally, I thought she did the same as Keeley Jones in Ted Lasso

Check her out in Fargo Season 5. She’s great in that too

It's on my list. I have to watch the first four seasons first.
My wife and I have enjoyed it. We’re watching Season 5 live. There are some back stories to the original movie and a lot of Coen brothers films Easter eggs thrown in. (“You got a panty on your head”). Casting is great. Season 3 has Ewan McGregor playing the parts of 2 brothers and yes, as he always does in his films, gets naked. For good measure, his current spouse Mary Elizabeth Winsted who also stars in that season, does as well. Season 4 has Timothy Olyphant playing a US Marshall that’s a sort of off the rails Raylan Givens, the character he played in Justified.

Fargo's awesome and an anthology, so you can watch the seasons in any order you'd like. All seasons are great, but I think season 2 w/ Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons (who are married in real life) is the best.
