(This is the second of a series of four posts based on studies I've done using the excellent Orangehoops website: Orangehoops | Syracuse University Orange Basketball )

I also decided to rate each team based on the total net points the players on them had in their careers. Obviously, younger players may have had a limited contribution to that year’s team but this could still be a measure of the overall talent on the team. Also, I realize that some players transferred out and played well for other schools. I added in their NP at other four-year schools to better estimate their talent level. One thing I could not account for is players leaving early for the pros, (which has a big impact on our national championship team), so this is an indicator, not a precise measurement of the overall talent on the roster. This uses recruited players only – no walk-ons. Players that were in school but not available to play because they were injured the whole year, red-shirting or sitting out after a transfer under the old rule are also not included.

Wow... that's damning. We are basically at the bottom of our historical.

For guys who go pro, a reasonable assumption would be that they carry over their production for the remainder of their college careers.

So, Carmelo would have an extra 2190 points which would put the 02-03 at 10,558 points which would rank them 10th on the all-time list.

I apologize. I cannot remember your exact definition of net points but I would venture that, perhaps, the teams of the late 70s rank so high due to the fact that their schedules were easier than what we've faced since between the Big East and the ACC?

You are simply amazing. Do you want to move to Ireland and run the data side of a company?
Thank you for all of the time you put into making this site better.

That's a good way of looking at it.

NP = points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks - missed field goals, missed free throws, turnovers and fouls.

Wow... that's damning. We are basically at the bottom of our historical.

Keep in mind that the last few years include careers that are not yet over.

Would that be any fun?
