- We looked like the 25-0 team today, not the 1-4 team. It was like Jimmy Olsen got rid of the kryptonite.
- We ran. We are a running team. Enough of letting the other team dictate the pace of the game to us. We got 9 steals. Incredibly we got only 6 fast break points but some of our 19 second chance points came off of breaks. We hit the open man and scored 74 points, the most since Duke 1. Not too many teams are going to beat us when we score 74.
- We out-rebounded a team with three 7 footer by an astounding 43-24. We grabbed 51.5% of our own misses and 76.5% of theirs. We also had 5 blocks to 2 for them.
- But the best thing of all was seeing Jerami Grant move and play like nothing had ever happened to him. JB was hopeful of getting him some time in this game. I thought he’d play 5-10 minutes and be saved for the ACC tournament. Instead he played 35 minutes, scored 16 points, pulled down 8 boards, had 2 assists and a steal. JB made the point after the game that with him in there, everybody can just do their assigned jobs. They don’t have to try to do other things as well, things they might not be as good at. (For one thing Michael Gbinije didn’t have to pretend that he is a forward). We are different team when we have all the parts and everything fits together and today they did.
- We had four players in double figures and would have had a fifth if Trevor Cooney could have made one more shot. Our bench scoring was zero but it didn’t matter. Our starters were that good. FSU had to cover everybody and they couldn’t. Shots and drives and passes were wide open.
- Which gave everyone good numbers. CJ Fair was 9 for 13 and scored 22 points, with 7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists and a block. Many of his shots were…ahem…two point jumpers, which he is very good at when he’s playing well.
- Rakeem Christmas got off six shots, rather than the two he attempted against Georgia Tech, and made 5 of them with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in only 24 mintues due to his foul trouble.
- Tyler Ennis scored 16 points and had 4 assists, (he did have an uncharacteristic four turnovers) and 3 steals. The thing is, he didn’t have to do it all by himself. There wasn’t that sense desperation in his shots that we’ve seen in recent games. He took them because they were open.
- Trevor Cooney again struggled to find the ocean, (even in Florida) for much of the game but when he did hit a couple of threes, it opened the lead from 1 to 7 points and we were back in control.
- Baye Keita didn’t score but had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in his 16 minutes.
- That was the first time we’ve been able to relax at the end of a game since Clemson on February 9th. Being an SU basketball fan should be fun. Today it was. We can dream again.
27-4, (14-4), with 9 to go
