- That one looked like an embarrassing defeat for three quarters of the game but e turned it around to dominate the rest of the way for the second straight game. We scored 21 of the last 30 points vs. Boston College and 27 of the last 40 in this game. Hey, coach! You guys sure know how to close out a game!

- What turned it around was that stopped them from getting the ball into the high post, something that’s been an open door all year. The high post is the soft underbelly of the zone. From there you can score or pass it to the baseline for lay-ups or back outside for easy catch-and-shoot jumpers. Once we shut it down, not only did we get stops but we started getting rebounds, too. After getting killed on the boards in the first half, 14-22 and 4-7 in offensive rebounds, we wound up winning the second half boards 25-12 and exactly reversed the O-rebs. You can’t control a game unless you control the other team with your defense.

- Joe Girard is pretty good. He kept us in it in the first half with 13 points on 5 for 7 shooting, 3 of 4 from three. He wound up with 26 points, 7 – seven – rebounds and a couple of assists. He also passed Coach Autry in the all-time SU scoring list, for which I assume he’ll be forgiven: Syracuse Orange Basketball Top 100 Scorers

- Judah Mintz was AWOL in the first half but took over in the second half, slicing the FSU defense for 16 points and 6 rebounds. Nobody could keep up with him.

- Jesse Edwards left some meat on the bone but was still productive with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks. After getting embarrassed by the 7-4 Naheem McCloud in the first half, (14 points of 7/8 shooting by a guy averaging 4.3ppg), he shut his bigger rival down in the second half, holding him to 2 points, both on free throws. I think Jesse was the biggest beneficiary of shutting the high post down because he didn’t have to cover both the low and high post and the corners, which Bill Russell couldn’t do. With the ball 20 feet out, Jesse can guard the basket, as a center should. That reverse jam might show up on Sports Center.

- Chris Bell didn’t shoot well but actually discovered a floor game, especially in the second half after he had to wear #52 due to a wardrobe malfunction. He should keep that number. He had 10 points, 6 rebounds and a block and played well on defense.

- Benny Brown, (our two power forwards), won’t be on any highlight film but 6 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals was helpful.

- We’ll let you take 35 treys if you promise to miss 26 of them.

- We’re 8-6 with 5 road wins in the league. That doesn’t suck.

15-10 (8-6 in conference) with 6+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
