- SU jumped all over the toothless Leopards, building up a 40-15 lead. They didn’t coast after that but a loss of focus and intensity is inevitable. Fortunately it was made up for by a strong comeback after a bad start by Cole Swider and good full-game performances by the Boeheims and Joe Girard and Lafayette never got back into the game on a night with both Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh lost to opponents they might have assumed would be walk-overs.

- Julie Boeheim was the night’s MVP and both her sons scored 18 points and showed all-around skills. At one point they had scored all of our points. It was The Boeheim family 11, Lafayette 4. Jimmy was 8 for 9 from the field, including 2 of 3 treys and pulled down 5 rebounds and made a steal. Buddy was only 3 for 9 from outside but was 3 for 5 driving to the basket. He pulled down 4 boards and had 6 assists and a steal. That’s the key for him- we know he can shoot the lights out but what else can he do? Tonight it was plenty.

- Joe Girard played flawlessly, hitting all 5 of his treys while dealing 7 assists to one turnover. He was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points. He looked relaxed, picking his spots rather than forcing things. It’s quite a change from both his high school career, when he was the whole team and from last year when he had the fans calling for Kadary Richmond. Buddy had his break-out year as a junior. Maybe Joe will, too.

- Cole Swider got off to a bad start shooting and was doing little else early. But he did a smart thing: he hit the boards, pulling down a dozen rebounds. Eventually his scoring picked up and he wound up with his first career double-double with 14 points. He also had a couple of assists, a couple of steals and block.

- JB mentioned in his presser that with our defense, most of the shots are going to come from the side so most of the rebounds will got to the forwards. They’ve got to go get them and tonight, they did, dominating the boards at 48-30, something they didn’t do against Pace, (38-35) or Lemoyne (40-32) – both game in which they were down on the boards at halftime.

- Jesse Edwards got only 2 rebs, (see above), but made all 4 field goals and 3 of 4 free throws, (although they tended to catch iron), scoring 11 points with 3 blocks. Frank Anselem scored 5 points and had 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 17 minutes.

- Benny Williams didn’t have big numbers (6 points, 3 rebs and 1 of everything else that’s good). But he had a great block and 2-handed dunk. He had a little more arc on his shot.

- We had 26 assists and 24 fast break points. We had 44 points in the paint and 39 from the arc. We’ve had at least 11 treys and 21 assists in every game so far. We shot 57% inside the arc, 50% outside of it and 77% from the line, putting the 8 for 21 performance against Pace further in the rear-view mirror.

- Somebody said something about this team reminding them of 2010, at least on offense. We don’t have the bulk inside Arinze and Rick gave us or their back-to-the-basket games. But he have multiple shooters, multiple guys who can drive to the basket, good passers and Edwards can score if a passer puts him position to do so, so I’m starting to see the comparison. As JB said after the game “We’ve got enough guys – somebody’s gonna get going.”

1-0 with 30+ to go.

LET’S GO ORANGE!
