- W>>>>>>>>L If we go on to a good season, people will little note nor long remember this.

- Jyare Davis put on quite a display, showing agility and strength in the paint. He missed his only three point attempt but was 7/8 on two pointers, got to the line 11 times, scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Chris Bell made the big play at the end but Jyare Davis led the comeback and carried the team.

- I felt Davis and Eddie Lampkin could have a brilliant two man game between each other. Late in the game, they traded passes to each other for lay-ups. I hope to see more and more of that this season.

- I felt Chris Bell will blossom into a true star this year, rather than just a gunner. He was 2 for 6 from the arc but 5 for 6 inside it, much of that on quick drives to the basket. He only had one rebound in 33 minutes but had an assists and a steal and fought his way through a pick to get to the ball with 6 seconds left and the score 84-82. He then made the clinching free throws.

- Donnie Freeman is still very raw but that body was made to play this game and, even with his unrefined game, he opened with a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds. He’s the sort that accidentally accumulates box score numbers because he can’t help it. When his game matures, he will dominate. It’s clear he is now our back-up center; Naheem McLeod didn’t play at all.

- JJ Starling had a solid game with 14p/5r/3a and a block and a steal.

- Eddie Lampkin a gave us five double-figure scorers with 10 points in 19 minutes.

- Petar Majstorovic didn’t shoot well but hustled constantly and had 4p/4r and s teal. In five minutes. It appeared he played more than that because he did so man tings in that time.

- Jaquan Carlos also shot poorly but in three games has 22 assists and 2 turnovers.

- Red had been complaining about the rebounding but we on that 46-32 against a bigger, more talented team than Clarion or Slippery Rock. We had 20 offensive rebounds.

Net Points

This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).

Jyare Davis game: 32NP in 26 minutes season: 32NP in 26 minutes = 49.2NP/40m
JJ Starling game: 12NP in 38 minutes season: 12NP in 38 minutes = 12.6NP/40m
Chris Bell game: 11NP in 33 minutes season: 11NP in 33 minutes = 13.3NP/40m
Donnie Freeman game: 9NP in 29 minutes season: 9NP in 29 minutes = 12.4NP/40m
Eddie Lampkin game: 8NP in 19 minutes season: 8NP in 19 minutes = 16.8NP/40m
Lucas Taylor game: 3NP in 12 minutes season: 3NP in 12 minutes = 10.0NP/40m
Jaquan Carlos game: 3NP in 36 minutes season: 3NP in 36 minutes = 3.3NP/40m
Kyle Cuffe game: 0NP in under 1 minute season: 0NP in under 1 minute = 0.0NP/40m
Elijah Moore game: 0NP in 2 minutes season: 0NP in 2 minutes = 0.0NP/40m

I would have put this part in the downside.

Freeman was plain terrible on defense when playing center. He also probably doesn't give us any huge mismatch at this point against ACC centers.

I didn't notice him when playing defense at forward, which would be a huge upgrade over his center defense.

Red being cute and playing guys out of position and in weird rotations like the game was in the bag from the start is part of what kept Lemoyne in the game so long.

I agree that eventually Freeman is going to dominate.

Do you at all take into account the level of the opposition? One of the worst teams in D1?

Donnie Freeman looks very tall! Still growing I bet. Lots of gift and talent that will unfold this season.

No mention of the talent level. Reads like any ACC team that we were favored over might. Truly, struggling with a team that loses to UC Northridge by 22 a couple days later, the quality of opponent should be emphasized. Lemoyne is nowhere near the level of Colgate or Cornell.

I was comparing them to Colgate and Cornell. At any rate, a description of the opponent as one of the worst in the division would have been on the downside and you made you initial post on the upside. I have no objection to someone adding an observation like that as long as it's on the right thread.
