Is it just me, or is this team just more "likable" than last year's squad. We had a great run in the tourney and the season overall was a success (obviously), but I found myself watching most the games just angry with how much we seemed to struggle to score. Throw in the turnovers, the stagnant offense (all we ever did was a high pick and roll), etc... and it just wasn't a treat to watch most nights. Final scores 47-45.

Fast forward to this year... this team might be one of my favorites that I have ever seen. You have the cerebral point guard who runs this team like a pro, the for year player in CJ Fair, the freakish Jeremi Grant, the slowly improving Rak, and the two most loved players by far in Keita and Cooney. I am not as big a Cooney fan as most, but there is no doubt that he electrifies the crowd like no one else on this team, other than Grant. Any one of your guys can beat you on a given night. That makes us so dangerous.

Fun team. Great team.

I think you're right. Last season Cooney and Coleman felt like disappointments a little bit, and for all his brilliance, MCW had a What turnover or two every game.

This season, Ennis is better than expected and quietly awesome, Cooney has far exceeded expectations, and there hasn't really been a player that has been a let down. They've all had their moments.

So, yeah. I can see it. This is a more likeable team.

was never the biggest mcw fan, although that changed forever with the indiana s16 game.

Same. There were times when it was impossible not to love his play, but the 3-17s were infuriating. And he was also so petulant and whiny at times -- too much showing up his teammates and referees. (For those who care about such things, his shopping spree was also a problem.)

Ennis's play and demeanor stand in sharp contrast.

We also had a shooting guard who really couldn't shoot. Cooney's a big upgrade there, too.

Yeah, this group is much more likable. Guys like Grant making watching basketball fun.

More likable? Hmmmm for me more like easier to like.

This year's team has been a lot of fun to watch. It is nice to have a shooting guard that can actually make a 3 pointer, and a point guard who takes care of the ball much better. It's almost shocking when this team turns the ball over. Mostly I just like the fact that I don't have to watch Triche play anymore.

this team never, ever takes a bad shot. its uncanny.
could be special.

i got suspended from the board for a little bit for airing my dislike of last year's team.
Granted, i was being an a$$ hole and deserved it. But obvioisly I like this team more.

I think the difference is Ennis. He is far more mature than MCW was. Mike tended to whine and hang his head throughout games. He was also super high risk/high reward in his playing style. The T-2000, Tyler Ennis, is like a robot who will methodically hunt your team down and kill it. It's just a matter of time. So there's really not a need to get too panicky even when we don't have a lead.

ya the MCW shoplifting robes and slippers didn't help our likability (although i was quick to forgive)

Love this!

Last year after the GT and Ville games it looked like we were little kids versus the Spurs - like our program had no business being on the same floor - of course this was all masked by our final four run - can't see us losing by 30 and getting embarrassed by anyone this year

Ennis gets the most PG affection from me since Johnny Flynn.

Tony, you do realize we beat Louisville and Georgetown last year as well?

For perspective, going into championship Sunday last year we had just beaten number 1 Louisville and had one loss. This year we could have no losses or just one depending on tomorrow. Everyone was sky high after we beat the ville and then beat cincy on mlk day. Obviously we slumped last year, and I am not saying we will this year, but it's just a cautious reminder of the extreme highs and lows on this board.

That win over Louisville was on the road too, which at that time was the best win any team in college basketball had gotten in several years (a #1 hadn't lost at home in at least a year prior to that game).

I like this team more simply because you can sense they like each other and work more as a team than last year. As JB has said, they have a lot of resolve and the only way you can have that is if you are all on the same page wanting the same thing------victory.

I trust you'll find them just as likable after they inevitably lose a few times and are faced with adversity.

Me, I'm hoping they continue to develop and have a successful NCAAT run just like that untalented team of thugs from last season.

Arrrrgh! Your reply is TOO levelheaded for this forum!

There's the difference. This team plays as a team, regardless of who is on the floor. I think the main factor in that is Ennis., he sets the tone and the standard. MCW and Jonny Flynn were much more self-focused, which was apparent even before anyone here ever saw Ennis play. Scoop? Well, he was just Scoop. Sometimes he was Sherman Douglas, at other times he was Josh Wright. I don't think he was self-focused so much as he looked for the big splash almost every possession, even when it was apparent that it wasn't there.
