Damnnnnn what did he do? What was it smoke weed or something?

1 player does not make up a team...he needs a wake up call..a reality check..because if he dont straightenhis life out, he'll be working at walmart greeting people.

According to the Syracuse.com article his SU career is in all likely hood over.

1 player doesn't make a team? Tell that to the Colts without Peyton Manning!!!

Look, not sure what Thomas did. But Thomas will get a crack at the NFL. He might even get drafted really really late depending on what his crime was to warrant this suspension, which will eventually leak out. He is a solid player who put up numbers as a safety. I wouldn't go all WallMart or do you want fries with that on him just yet. Between the NFL, CFL, and Arena league I think Thomas will find a roster someplace. I mean the kid can play.

Well, good luck Philip.

I'll always remember the interception vs. WVa in the end zone last year, biggest individual play of the Marrone era.

They score a TD there, that game is ovaaaaah

If it's One year, it's not his first offense. Same thing that tripped up other guys who aren't here any longer.

Not sure why his career would be over if he wanted to come back.

With his redshirt year he can transfer and play somewhere else as well.

Phil was a decent player who made some plays, but we need bigger, faster kids at safety.

I should reserve comment and not pile on here, but for three years I thought that Phil Thomas played football like someone without any sense. I held out hope that that he didn't operate the same way in his personal life, but it looks like that's not the case.

He's blown a tremendous opportunity, and for the next two games, our team is worse for it.

agreed, and now it opens up another scholarship that may be better off for the team in the long run.

Phil was a kid given a great opportunity and he blew it. Multiple failed tests and he's out - good - clean house. He can go live with Brice Hawkes down in South Florida.

Well it looks like his career is over at Syracuse, this is a huge disappointment for a number of reasons.

In my opinion he was one of the best players to play her in the last 10 years, and he was a guy Marrone brought in during that class he had to cobble together during the transition period after Grob was fired. I have not really lashed out against Grob, but really it is clear he brought this program to levels we may never get out of.

Thomas was also a guy who appeared to be a leader, both on the field and off. It was written many times how he mentored young DB's and guys looked up to him. I am sure Marrone is deeply disappointed in Thomas as he probably thought he would be a go to guy next year, captain maybe, NFL draft pick, a guy who graduated, someone who he could point to as an example of what he was trying to do with his program.

However, perversely, Marrone and the Administration have to use Thomas as an example in the wrong way-meaning he has to show parents of recruits and players that he is trying to do things the right way. It will work out in the end and I support Marrone.

anyway, bit of a rant - Wilkes is ready and a solid player and kid (as far as I know).

Beat cincy - we need something to break our way!

Marrone and staff flew to Florida at the last minute to persuade him not to take a visit to Florida State. Doubly disappointing given what Marrone invested in him.

what im not getting is a 1 yr suspension for a failed piss test seems really really extreme. it must have been something other then what were all talking about in his system

how many different times did he fail over his tenure here?
was he currently on notice?

that probably had an effect on the length of the punishment

Hope he gets his act together for his sake. He's done here, apparently. As I get older, and my perspective broadens, the more this stuff saddens me. I have no idea what his family situation is, but for many of these guys, it seems like there likely will never be this type of opportunity again.

And maybe the season

Yeah, NFL teams will be lining up to sign a 190-pound safety who when his team needed a leader to step up, decided to get baked.

He blew it. His shot and the NFL and his shot to get a degree. Fark him. I have no sympathy for anyone who doesn't take advantage of a free education.
