Top 2015 recruit Karl Towns highlights

He looks like a giant baby out there, he looks so young. He does show some good passing ability and defense. He could be a monster as his body develops. I am glad that coaches are on him.

I don't see it. Just a big guy vs.small guys.

He is a freshman in high school. I am not sure of his age, but what are we talking about, a 14 year old? I think he shows quite a bit for a kid whose body hasn't begun to mature yet. He shows good vision and the ability to deliver the pass. Good timing on his blocks, albeit against smaller opponents. He may or may not develop, but I think that as he matures, he will gain athleticism and strength and become a monster. Or, he may fizzle out for a number of reasons.

I like # 25, Watch more of their games on U-Tube. History usually says Private Parochial Schools play better competition

Exactly. Obviously the competition wasn't great but at his very young age his skills are quite impressive. Most High School Freshman bigs look lost and have no idea how to play the game. Towns has a very bright future as he gets older and stronger.

The staff has done a good job evaluation some yunger players before the crowd of late. Dion, MCW, Vonleh, Ennis ect. It's obviously harder with bigs since they are way bigger thena those they play against and usually still getting used to their own bodies. Still if you get in early as the first big time school and show a lot of interest its got to help down the road. Its not like we offered him yet, so there is time to see which way he goes development wise.

I'm really hoping that our early and consistant interest in Vonleh pays off. That kid just wows me when I see his vids. He's going to be a huge, very skilled PF by the time he hits college.

Hey Francis, Thanks for your input. Can you give me an updated list of most likely targets over the next several years. Obviously, things can change, but who are the most likely recruits at this stage... Seems like Hop has been working hard on Noel. Pity that JB didn't go to his game the other day also, as Cal did...

I agree, I love Vonleh. I really hope he chooses SU. He would fit perfectly as a combo forward.

What about the Bryant kid from Rochester? Also a 9th grader and has been having an impressive group of coaches coming up to watch him play.

I see minimal coordination and minimal athleticism. Barely gets off the ground, looks like he is falling - not jumping - for rebounds. He makes one shot and one pass, then a bunch of blocks against people more than a foot shorter than him. I just don't see it.

I'd rather recruit a small kid that has a growth spurt (re: Anthony Davis) than a tall guy who never had the agility that shorter people have which develops foot skills and coordination. It's easy to get excited about tall young players because you can't teach height ... but that shouldn't be the only measuring stick.

Pun most definitely intended.

I agree, the kids that have a growth spurt and become good sized forwards after developing and retaining guard skills are awesome (Carmelo, Anthony Davis), but I don't think that the staff has found a way to determine if a kid is going to grow 6-8" in a freak growth spurt. So, right now, probably the best way to recruit big men, is to recruit the kids that are already big and show signs of becoming skilled big men. I really think that this kid will grow into his body and begin to show the type of athleticism that you are looking for, probably in his junior year he will begin to really show what we see in elite big men in the classes of 2012 and 2013.

Work on blocking and shooting with the left hand, young man. That is a huge advantage to be ambidextrous around the hoop.
