Boeheim circling the wagons and daring anyone to contradict him,so that he can respond with a predictible response that favors his side of the question. Players and coaches do owe the fans something. Spending $ and emotional investment in teams pay for their salaries and scholarships. Fab Melo's name will now go down in Orangemen history not on the quality side of the ledger but as an ignominious. no effort kind of person. Fans cannot and should not forget besides a 5 year possible free ride in college heave. these player collect if they deserve it a ton of adulation that most people never see in their lives from a collection of individuals under one roof. It may be a spontaneous reaction to a big play or at the end of a a stellar career but its there for them and given by the lowly fans on top of every thing else they get to experience on our dime. Make no mistake its your dime. Yes its our choice but you get what you pay for . An afternoon or evening of outlet watching and supporting your team . Sorry Jim He blew it for every Syracuse fan out there who might have invested a moment to watch and enjoy the tea this year and was hoping and paying for a bit more.SUball

I think it would have drawn much more negative attention had JB said "Fab let everybody down"...JB would have been absolutely roasted had he said that.

It's a foreign concept to most everyone now, but remember the whole presumption of innocence thing? Melo has academic problems. We don't know the rest. I admire JB for talking the talk and walking the walk when it comes to not assuming the worst of people.

Why do we make so many negative assumptions about people? Media hype is part of the problem, poor journalism giving the aura of facts, and a poor record of enforcement (loss of faith in the system to ensure justice). Regardless, I think giving the benefit of the doubt is not only better for personal social relationships, but also because John Adams, GW, TJ, etc. all introduced this crazy idea that our country would allow 100 guilty people free to ensure 1 innocent person is not wrongfully punished.

I understand my response goes beyond the nature of this thread topic, but I think it's important that JB goes into protect and defend mode first, until the facts show otherwise.

While all of that may be true, it's not the kind of thing JB can state publicly. JB should not want the reputation as a complainer and a finger-pointer. If he says something bad about Melo, that will be remembered by every player and every recruit SU will ever have. The Bernie Fine situation may have taught him to stay classy in the face of adversity. While it may have been momentarily satisfying to dis Melo, it's better in the long run to not escalate the situation.

Very true. Though it might have been preferable to just deflect the question rather than explicitly stating "Fab didn't let anybody down." (Since that's kind of hard to believe.)

OK I can go with that. Perhaps if he said nothing. Don't go there at all. I know the media will hound him for some kind of comment but Jimmy has known how to handle that with a few exceptions like the Bernie Fine thing. But I can understand trying his best to back a person he considered a friend if he was in fact totaly unaware of wrong doing. I'd probably do the same but I know enough when to stop. At least most of the time.

Even if he really feels Fab let everyone down, he can't say that publicly. He can say it privately to him and the team behind closed doors. All it would do is publicly throw one of his own under the bus and what does that say to his other kids? Also it only leads to a pity party and he wants his team to be up not down in the dumps.

Then say nothing. I can't feel sorry for a kid who had everything going for him. all he needed to do was try just a bit .What was he failing Quantum physics?
