I have several friends that currently go to Nova and this is all they talk about. When did this happen/start? What am I missing? I'd take our guards over their guards in the past 10 years.

Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Our gurards may be better, but as someone alluded too, ALL their good players are guards. Who was their last good big? Dante Cunningham?

I think it came from that team that had (ray) Allen Ray, Foye, Nardi, and Lowry.

Other than Scottie Reynolds, Im not sure they have had that many guards since then, but whatever. Nova is like a little brother. Let them call themselves whatever they want. Give them a punch in the face and laugh at them.

I'll give them John Pinone and Eddie Pinkeye

In reality they have had some pretty good guards. I know how much you guys value Bleacher Report, but here is a Bleacher Report "article" on Nova's guards, it doesn't even mention Ray or Foye. Guys of a certain age will remember Rory Sparrow, Stewart Granger and Alvin Williams and you left out Scottie Reynolds.

I recall Malik Wayans killing us in the Dome one year.

In the face? You're a Dick brother. Body shots acceptable, face shots were off limits.

It's attributable to that four-guard lineup that got them to the Final Four. Then they got a few McDonald's AA's after that - who failed to live up to expectations.

Nova Guards

No I didnt

Jay Wright loves small ball- it seems he focuses on guards more than anything else.
Every year it seems like Nova is recruiting the latest "hot guard" but rarely are they in the mix for a top-notch true C.
My Nova friends absolutely hate seeing a JayVaughn Pinkston, or Mouph Yarou constantly getting chewed up by bigger front lines, especially ours.

Jason Fraser was a pretty big recruit. I think they got him over us. he just had knee issues.

Dante Cunningham was legit.

Its a good description IMO - but its more based on the system that Wright has used, which always goes with three guards (or more). And the lack of impact bigs. Its not that alluring a program (relatively speaking) - Wright has done a good job with the guards

They have had three periods of success with pretty good college guards. I don't think its because they believe they have the best guards, but they have had some decent teams that have no size. 2006 they were a 1 seed, 2009/2010 they were a 2 and 3 seed and final 4 team. And then they have this year which there fans are excited about (perhaps prematurely).

In terms of comparing to us, I think they had better guards in the handful of years post Carmelo (despite Gerry and Johnny). Things have changed since there final four run of 2009 - we have clearly had the better guards, and Nova has sort of stank.

My first thought for the game was that Wright was reverting to his old "form" of 3 guard offense. He did this for a number of years but the problem was that once he got into the NCAA tourny, the outside shooting failed for one game and lack of rebounding hurt (or having 5 guys try to rebound) that they got bounced early.

Fraser was a McDonalds All American and I thought he was going to be great.

Lowry and Foye are still getting consistent minutes in the NBA.

Corey Fisher was a very good college guard, as well. He also looked like a woodchuck.

Well, they did get a couple Mickey Dee's, but they didn't make as much of an impact as hoped for (e.g. Wayns).

Ochefu was a 4 star and they were recruiting Roberson pretty hard.

I don't think there is a lack of desire to have bigs, it just hasn't been their recruiting strength.

Mix in a couple of guys that don't live up to expectations or don't work out for other reasons (Isaiah Armwood comes to mind) and you have Villanova's lack of bigs.

That talented team with Scotty Reynolds-Corey Fisher totally imploded when they had a Shumpert-Williams situation with a girl. It included locker room fisticuffs etc. Totally destroyed that team.
