SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the third time in four games, the No. 25 Syracuse University women's basketball team will leave the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome when it travels to Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. in the McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.

Syracuse defeated No. 13/11 North Carolina, 61-56, in its last game on Feb. 5. Sophomore guard Alexis Peterson led the way with a team-high 20 points, her third 20-point contest of the year. With the victory against the Tar Heels, the Orange defeated a nationally-ranked opponent for the first time during the 2014-15 season. Ironically, the last top-25 team Syracuse had defeated was UNC on Jan. 30, 2014.

The Orange is trying to collect its first conference victory away from home since Jan. 22 when it travels to Georgia Tech. Syracuse has lost its past two Atlantic Coast Conference road games and owns a 2-3 record away from the Carrier Dome in conference competition this season.

Peterson Performs
Sophomore guard Alexis Peterson has made a tremendous jump from her freshman to sophomore season. After scoring at a clip of 3.0 points per game in 12.3 minutes per contest in 2013-14, Peterson leads the squad in scoring and is one of the top scorers in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014-15. She currently averages 15.0 points per game, which ranks 10th in the ACC. In addition, she has led the club in scoring a team-best nine times and scored at least 10 points in all but four games.

In addition to her scoring prowess, Peterson leads Syracuse in assists and steals. The Columbus, Ohio native averages 4.6 assists per game, which ranks third in the ACC. She leads both the squad and conference in steals, averaging 2.3 steals per game.

The sophomore guard put together her third 20-point performance of the year against No. 13/12 North Carolina on Feb. 5. Peterson scored a team-high 20 points in the team's first win against a nationally-ranked foe in 2014-15. It marked her third game with at least 20 points in the past seven games for Peterson, as well.

For the second time in four games, Peterson topped the 25-point mark against North Carolina State on Jan. 25. Peterson scored 27 points, five shy of her personal-best, against the Wolfpack in a 66-49 victory. She knocked down a career-high 12 free throws in the win against NC State, leading the club to its first-ever victory against its in-conference foe.
Peterson produced a career day on Jan. 15 against Wake Forest. She scored a personal-best 32 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. In 39 minutes of play, she recorded only one turnover. She performed in the clutch, as well. Wake Forest pulled within two points with three minutes remaining and the sophomore guard personally went on an 8-1 run to fuel the Orange to an 11-point win.
At the Junkanoo Jam, the Columbus, Ohio native put on a show en route to All-Junkanoo Jam accolades. Against East Carolina on Nov. 27, she had 19 points. She came right back with a great showing against No. 1/2 South Carolina on the very next day. In a personal-best 40 minutes, she dished out nine assists and pulled down six rebounds, both of which were career-highs, in a last-minute loss to the Gamecocks.

Running Away The Orange has blitzed opponents during the 2014-15 season, using scoring runs to take control of games. Through the first 23 games of the year, Syracuse has recorded 42 runs of 8-0 or more.

Syracuse closed against No. 13/11 North Carolina with a late run to score its first victory against a nationally-ranked foe in 2014-15 on Feb. 5. Down one point with 5:18 remaining in regulation, the team went on a 8-0 run and never looked back in its win against the Tar Heels. Sophomore guard Alexis Peterson contributed four points during that run.

Another example of this could not be more evident than the Orange's contest against North Carolina State on Jan. 25. Down 32-26 with 19:20 remaining in regulation, the club went on a 23-0 run and never looked back against the Wolfpack. It marked the team's longest run of the 2014-15 campaign.
Syracuse used a second-half run to pull away from Vermont on Dec. 1, as well. The visiting Catamounts pulled within six points with 18:06 left in the contest. Over the next six minutes, everything went the Orange's way as the team went on a 20-0 run and cruised to a 94-63 win.

Series Breakdown
Syracuse and Georgia Tech will meet for the third time on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. It marks the squad's first trip to McCamish Pavilion. The Orange has won both previous meetings, which have both come in the past three seasons.

Last season, Syracuse scored a 76-70 victory against Georgia Tech in the Carrier Dome on Jan. 12, 2014. Brianna Butler sank a personal-high seven 3-point field goals en route to a 23-point effort against the Yellow Jackets. Briana Day pulled down 10 rebounds against Georgia Tech, as well. It marked her fourth game of her collegiate career with at least 10 boards.

ATLANTA – The No. 25 Syracuse University women's basketball team recorded a 65-60 victory on the road at Georgia Tech on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Syracuse has registered at least 17 victories in eight straight seasons.

It was a balanced effort overall, as six players scored at least six points at Georgia Tech (14-10, 4-6). Three players scored in double-figures for the 19th time in 2014-15 in Atlanta. Junior guard Brianna Butler and sophomore guard Alexis Peterson each tallied 14 points. Sophomore center Briana Day was two rebounds shy of a double-double, tallying 12 points and eight rebounds.

From the tip, Syracuse (17-7, 7-4) jumped out to an early advantage. Behind 3-point field goals from Butler and sophomore forward Isabella Slim, the club opened with a 12-2 advantage in the first six minutes of the game.

Behind six 3-point field goals, the Orange was able to build a 14-point lead with 4:20 remaining in the first frame. Butler and Slim each knocked down two 3-point field goals in the first half, while junior guard Cornelia Fondren and Peterson each had one.

Holding a 35-22 lead with two minutes remaining in the first half, Georgia Tech was able to use a late run to cut in the Syracuse advantage. The Yellow Jackets scored an 8-0 run over the final two minutes of play to make it a 35-30 game headed into the locker room.

Out of the break, Syracuse replicated its start from the opening 20 minutes. Up five points with 17:44 to go, the Orange outscored the Yellow Jackets, 13-3, to take a 50-35 lead with 13:22 remaining in regulation. The run was highlighted by senior guard Diamond Henderson diving for a loose ball and finding junior forward Taylor Ford for a lay-up while still on the ground.

From there, the visiting Orange led by at least 10 points until the final two minutes of the contest when Georgia Tech made it an eight-point game. Syracuse held off the late run by the host and secured its third victory away from home in ACC play.

The Syracuse women's basketball team returns home on Thursday night when its hosts ACC-foe Miami at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Thursday night's contest is the annual Play 4Kay game, as well.
