We’re off this coming week right?
And then we get Wagner? Seems like an optimal time to rest and work in some of the younger guys to get more 1st team reps. And even work in some on the second team to get them exp. We saw that it’s needed.
If the injured are questionable we rest them all game and if we’re good to go we’re good to go. But I want a 50 something to nothing win. Throttle down and roll them. Some of the key pieces shouldn’t see the 4th and even probably some of the 3rd.No. Wagner is this Saturday 10/1 at 5pm. Then we’re off.
I love the fact they are embracing wax on, wax off.
Great post. Couple things to add:Having stepped back, enjoyed the win, slept a few hours, blah, blah, blah,...
- SU knows how to gut out a win, regardless of appearances, winners must find ways to gut out wins. You can't always slaughter your opponents.
- Tony White has a solid defense, mostly. Depth on the DL would be nice. Stopping the run must be a focus, I know that injuries have impacted this to some extent, but football is a sport where injuries are expected.
- The DBs came to play! Once again, the DBs have slowed and stopped a high powered QB with legit receivers. Three top QBs down. This is a must because SU faces other top QBs as we face the meat of the ACC schedule.
-The receivers are stepping up. Orande Gadsden is separating himself from the pack. Others are working themselves open. There are still some issues with others, but I see them improving (CJ working to get open, needs to watch ball into hands; Alford using his body to his advantage more, needs to focus on the catch)
-Running game is suspect, not opening holes, but Tucker looks like he has a nagging injury that hinders his explosiveness, just an opinion, not worth a fight. Regardless, defenses must play heavy in the bax to ficus on Tucker, even if he does not rack up yards, he draws defenders away from the plays. And when the defense let's up on him, he gashes them for 5+ yards.
- Staying with Tucker, he looks much improved out of the backfield in Anea's offense. A safety valve pass is punitive to the defense and can move the ball, usually move the chains, and can break free for more YAC at any moment. Even with my perceived lessened explosiveness in the backfield, in open space, Tucker can devastate a defense.
- Shrader let some plays on the field. I am starting to buy into the possibility that he is/was sick or injured. His decisions were not up to par, nor was his running. Beck was visibly upset with Shrader. He also was telegraphing passes so he wasn't checking down his receivers. We saw several times where he forced a pass and had a wide open receiver elsewhere on the field. And who can forget the pick thrown to a waiting defender. This simply is not Shrader play, he has shown much better play. Further, the O-line mostly protected him sufficiently, combined with his movement to keep plays alive long enough to develop, this isn't the last two years where defenders were on top of the QB as soon as he caught the snap. Sharader also had many times when he could have run but didn't take off, nor was he as quick when he did take off. Regardless, the kid still had a serviceable decent game, kept his cool, marched downfield on several drives against a stingy defense (that also knows our OC rather well), and executed the winning drive a second week in row, kudos must be granted. Heal up, Shrader, whatever the problem.
- UVA deserves a lot of credit for their defense. They have been stingy through four games and they did not give SU a break. They did not allow Tucker to run free, which I believe would have allowed SU to dominate the game. I am glad their defense came up short, for the record.
- UVA's offense still has potential weapons. The new HC was stupid for not trying to keep Anae and Beck, Armstrong's drop-off proves this point, as do the receivers. Their focus on forcing a running game was opportune having lost Thomas at MLB and seeing the weaker run stop in the Purdue game. Still, their new HC's offensive prowess seems better assessed by GBO than by the talking heads who believe he will out produce the Bronco Mendenhall teams.time will tell, but I am believing GBO right now.
- Special teams: Szmyt happens, can more be said? Compare with two missed FGAs and amassed PAT. Granted, the two FGAs were career longs, but the kid was in the Dome, he is not likely to find better kicking conditions anytime soon.
All of that to say 4-0! GO ORANGE!
NEED the gif
Shrader is starting to get a bit like DeVito with his unwillingness to throw the ball away and I am curious if it was less Tommy and more continued O-line PTSDHaving stepped back, enjoyed the win, slept a few hours, blah, blah, blah,...
