Maverik Division I Media Poll: Syracuse Retains No. 1 Rankings; Terps Right Behind

There was no post-No. 1 letdown by Syracuse this week.

Following its rise to No. 1 in the Maverik Media Poll, Syracuse won two games, solidifying its spot and bucking the trend of No. 1 teams falling the week after being ranked at the top.

It wasn’t easy. Following a dominant win against Upstate rival Cornell, the Orange came back and beat North Carolina in overtime — another one-goal chapter to the Orange season.

Maryland had a big week and is No. 2. The Terps beat Albany by a goal in a playoff-like atmosphere in the Capital District. Then, in primetime on Easter Sunday, won a three-OT league battle with Rutgers. The Terps earned six first-place votes.

Denver is at No. 3, dispatching St. John’s. Duke has beaten North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia in succession — in convincing fashion against the Cavs — and jumped to No. 4 in the poll.

Albany remains at No. 5 after proving it can hang with the top teams in lacrosse.

Who the heck gave Duke a #1 vote? Quint?

Edit: And wow - I totally forgot that 6-6 UNC was the preseason #1 team. #fail
