We're 71 ...

Up from 85 in The Athletic's weekly ranking.

Im shocked we received votes this week but we’re a top 50 team. Between our running game, defense and the starters we return it’s indefensible to put us outside the top 60 after having humiliated a heisman QB candidate and barely missing a bowl last year.

A lot of bowl talk on this forum is premature, but we’re certainly a top 50 team all things considered right now.

A lot of the team ranking statistical metrics don't stop using last season's data until Week 4, when there's a reasonable base size for the current season.

National perspective is the same. We're thrilled with one game, and we, the biggest knowers of the team, see something different. However, it'll take a couple of repeat performances for everyone outside our bubble to see that.

beat uconn and at least 1 of virginia/purdue before we really can say we turned a corner.

Losing this week and nothing has been gained and winning this week and not beating at least 1 of the following 2 still leaves us at 3-2 after wagner and a long road ahead. if we are 4-1/5-0 then its a different conversation.

If we start 5-0, it'll be a 10 win season.

Looking ahead to next year in the haze and hue of my orange colored glasses, next season should also be a 7-8 win season, and the year after, similar.

I think the Purdue game will be the corner turning - for me anyway. I think we roll UCONN even with a blah effort. Purdue at home is one that we need to get to further establish the arrow is moving up. If we handle them at home...

The national perception is only that Lville had a disastrous performance against us and we might be a little bit better than people thought. Smack Purdue and people will start coming around.

The Athletic, Coaches and Media are subscribed/paid to know better than national perception. Theres a reason we received votes and it doesn’t take much to realize we have a good squad despite the daunting schedule.

Louisville’s a troubled team but I wonder where they were initially ranked in such lists

Sustained success? That's really new to me everyone...I may need some counseling on how to handle

Yeah, that first point is pretty critical.

Models that look at the last 4 games and don't account only for the new season's results until hitting game 4 are going to reward us for the good win against Louisville, but then punish us for the 3 bad losses to end last season.

Thus, a ranking in the 70s.

It'll climb as we replace the bad losses with wins. I'd expect we have potential to be a serious mover in this model.

Yes. They should have beaten PSU and have a legit QB. Their a respectable B10 team.

Beat them, and things get rosier
