I feel like we have to have 2 QBs ready to perform at a starter level, and the coaches have to be willing to turn to the other one when the first guy doesn't have it.

We don't have QBs that survive the season. We just don't. We compete with our main guy, but fall apart once he goes down or is hobbled. Need to plug in a healthy, high performer.

I know this is nuts and flies in the face of football conventions. If you have more than one QB, you don't have one QB, yadda yadda yadda...

We have to break out of the offense completely falling apart when our starting QB is less than 100%. In past seasons, we had no shot because the talent isn't there. Next season, I don't think that is the case. As you said, best QB room in decades. Let's use that room to be better. Can't ignore the rest of the talent in that room.

100%. If Shrader is the guy next year they have to be able to pull the trigger and make the move to the other guy(s) if he's struggling. They CAN NOT wait it out until it's too late. Take a page out of Dabo's book and make the change. Even if it's only for a series or two. Sometimes that little change up is all that is needed.

This is probably one of the best QB rooms we had in decades. Im sure there will be lots of competiton with Beck as the QB coach/OC. They all will get better. They question is how much better? Is it enough to win the job over Shrader or force a QB change when he struggles.
Thus my post! We need multiple QB’s who are constantly pushing each other to make our QB situation more secure!

I think every team wants that situation. Its just harder to get that most years. Guys transfer once they realize they are not a full time starter. We are in a unique situation to have two former 4 stars, an intriging 3rd QB and a 4th QB that have played meaninful snaps in the acc.

I think that's the plan every year.

Good points but Im thinking they may put some work into Villari at TE. He played more than anyone yesterday. Plus Im not sure if they can get a impact TE target. Maybe take a chance on a all conference FCS guy?

Correct. Villari got 44 snaps. Mang got 3.

Thanks for pointing that out. I think its telling.

Yeah, I have no idea how good of a blocker Villari is vs. Mang
(who seemed to regress in that role this season, after improving last year as the season went on)
but he’s clearly has much more explosive offensive potential as a receiver and runner.

Plus - there’s the wonderful potential for all kinds of trickeration having an athletic former dual-threat QB in the game at TE.

D'Marcus. He showed it a few times throughout the year and did so again yesterday
I knew you were, but not sure who Hchuck is referring to.

...none of which was shown this year, despite it being a "thing" used by Anae and Beck frequently at UVa.

Will be nice to see that part of the playbook expand as more and more of the offense gets rolled out, and the personnel are suited better to create such matchup problems.

Good points. He is a big athlete and I imagine they work on his blocking skills this off season.

I couldn't tell from being at the game-How did Villari look?

Not bad at all for his first “full” game. Pass blocking he did very well grading at the bottom end of very good which is much better than Mang graded through the year. In run blocking he was at the bottom end of average which is about what Mang was usually.

Garrett is QB1 . Dino won't bench him
I like Garrett, however a winning coach knows when it’s time, in a game, to switch up QB’s and the OC must be free to make those game time changes when he feels it necessary. He is the one who knows that personnel group best!
This is nothing against HCDB.

Thanks. Think he has great potential as a TE. The question is does he favor the pro potential that he has of a TE or try to move down to a lower level to try to do QB again. I hope the fact that he played so many reps at TE yesterday is a indicator he's totally bought into that role.

I think that for Villari, that's the million dollar question: does he want to continue to play QB, or is he cool switching positions to get out on the field?

I don't think he can be faulted either way for whatever he decides. If he has his heart set at QB, then I think he'll need to drop down a level -- but he could do well at FCS.

Need some large run stopping defensive linemen. Cant compete with better teams if you cant stop the run.

We need to decide what we want to be. Do we want to throw 51 times or dominate the run game? Who are we and what’s our philosophy on offense. We know who we are on defense. We have a plan on defense. We saw great improvement on offense this year and I think we can be much better next year. Stay healthy and get better blocking with fewer false starts. I hope everyone we have on our roster now comes back. With them and the additional help coming in we can finish near the top of the conference next year. Time to get some rest, but come back in January and get back to work to get bigger, stronger and faster. This offense should be mikes ahead going into spring practice.
