I have been told that Fab received an incomplete on a spanish class he was taking.
He was unable to complete the final written portion of the exam.
Fab later took the test orally and passed with ease.
There was a hang-up because they didn't want to give him special treatment and had to find
clarification as too wether it was OK to take a written final exam orally.
Fab is now in the process of appealing the decision based on a learning disability.

That is the latest I have heard.
*I am not stating this as fact, just heard it from a decent source and thought I would
share as it seemed reasonable and fit the time lines.

...u r saying he could not read his mother language...all i can say is wow...but there are definitely means to answer written tests orally for hdcp.

Spanish is not his "mother language"

They speak Portugese in Brazil

Brazilians don't speak Spanish. They speak Portuguese.

didnt realize they were that different...me bad
hold the phone... didn't know portuguese was a different language than spanish? ORRR that Brazil was a Portuguese speaking country?

Spanish and Portuguese are extremely similar languages (like 90% overlap). I am sure Fab could get by in any Spanish speaking country. This story is one of the funnier ones I have seen though. So it gets some points for that.

(This would be the equivalent of you not being able to pass a reading comprehension test in England).

Fab is bilingual: Portuguese and Spanish. So, your assumption is correct. He is studying in an English-medium university, no small accomplishment. I know. I teach in such a university, located in the Middle East, in which for most all of the students English is not their first language; or even second.

Fab is a cunning linguist. ;)

I WISH it were this easy... if so, I don't think there would be much of a hold up with Melo returning. My suspicion still holds that it is much deeper than what most people want to think. I'll end my speculation there as I hope I'm wrong as all I want right now is the big guy to change that sweater he was wearing yesterday for an Orange jersey and HELP us contend for a final four run.

Spanish "speaking" is close but not written spanish as I pointed out.
Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese are different, more so than American English vs England.
Though Portuguese and spanish are similar when spoken, they are not when written.
After some research you will find that this rumor is plausible.

It seems as though Bees and Jake should just write articles everyday and do away with the forum section.

Not plausible, just silly.

Yes, d@mn them and their facts getting in the way of a good story. Those b@stards!

Ummm ... I am neither lending credibility or discrediting this rumor (there are so many of them) but ... Fab is supposedly fluent in both Portugese (the "official" language of Brazil) and Spanish (a heavy 2nd language in Brazil). He obviously can also speak English (which he learned best from watching TV and not through ESL classes in Florida as was reported). Learning-speaking a language can be a whole lot different than reading-writing a language that can be significantly impacted by the presence of a learning disability. If he has difficulty reading than he will have difficulty writing... in any language. And, believe it or not, that he is trilingual can actually compound and complicate the problem. If he has been, previously, identified as an individual with a learning disability than he would have an IEP that would carry into college courses ... allowing the instructor/professor to complete a test orally without having to check with NCAA or any other rulings.

I really wanted to know what happened at first now I just want to know when Fab will be back.

WOW!
Can anyone confirm or debunk this?
