TD isnt a runner. He is a pure pocket passer. Maryland hasn't had worry about him running at all. This allows an extra body for anything Locks desires. Pressure coverage ECT. Eric demanded a spy, Eric bought time for his wrs to get open and most importantly Eric had tons of experience.
I have confidence that TD is going to end up being an exceptional QB. My guess is he hits his stride the second half of the season. Im still bullish on
8-4 with a great finish. The kids a leader and a competitor. He just needs game snaps.
Last point Maryland is legit and if they stay healthy they are going to be a very tough out.
Go Orange!

It’s not just the run threat, although that’s a big part of it.

Eric Dungey was a tremendous college QB. There’s always been a certain part of the fanbase that was in denial about that.

People who should know better fell in love with the cliches about “arm talent” and “spinning it.” As though that’s all there is to being an effective QB in 11-on-11 tackle football.

I roo think Tommy will be really good. But he’s on a learning curve that may be much longer than some understood.

Hes pretty quick we should have designed more runs for him like we did with Dungey. Apart from the risk of injury of course.

He really needed an easy home game to get things going with his WRs this week or last.

Eric was a back yard baller and made magic happen a lot. Tommy is a QB who needs to settle in more, he needs a little more nurturing so to speak. This doesn’t mean he isn’t talented. I think he is going to just get better and better all year. This is a team who truly will be their best version come end of year IMO.

If you can't get at least one guy rush for 100 yards vs a team like Liberty you have to have a qb that can run. The lack of running game is killing this offense. The WR's aren't big/strong enough to battle on their own and need this running game to get 5 a pop like Maryland did.

It is worrisome to me that we need the QB to be a running threat. The system is proven to work without that. The OL needs to get better on pass protection bottom line. Running blocking is halfway decent. Neal today was about 4 years per carry and Adams was over 5 yards per carry. We need to find a way to give TD a clean pocket. You only need a "running" QB when your OL can't pass protect.

Neal was 4 yards per carry and Adams was over 5 yards per carry. Problem is we can't run when you are getting blasted on the score board and we can't properly pass block.

Or if your WR's can't get open.

And agree...the pass blocking struggled

This x 1000

I think our WRs can get open if given time. But when TD plants his back foot and automatically needs to start scrambling then its a problem.

Watching them run side by side with the Maryland db's far too often.

I agree, TD does seem to not stay in the pocket but I'm sure Dino wants him in the pocket for X and get the heck out.

I don’t know too many big time modern collegiate offenses that have pure pocket passers that rarely ever run/have the threat to run.

ESPECIALLY ones that don’t have above average talent on the OL and skill positions.

Even Clemson runs Trevor Lawrence 5-10 times per game by design.

People always say this. I dont know how they note that with the angles used during a telecast.

Maybe Shrm but it just looked like gliding by the WR's and I hope I'm wrong...I really do.

The offense is predicated on a pocket passer.

The issue is immaterial to our (lack of) success.

one easy thing TD can fix- on 4th down always throw towards SOMEONE. Even if he seems covered. I would rather an INT 30 yards downfield than a turnover on downs

That’s what I worry about. It’s common sense. It’s 4th down. Of all the corrective things, this should not to be needed on the list...signal of lack of game feel.

This baffles me. Why throw it away? Makes me question his heart/drive to win.
