please, please, please ask DM what his reasoning is behind game-planning first and foremost with the run, when it simply has not worked over the last few weeks... It's not that I want it asked in a "you're an idiot," type of way, but moreso, why we feel that is our best chance to win. I'm sure he won't give you a straight answer, but if you could somehow describe the look on his face, or his energy level as he answers, at least something would give me some relief.

Much obliged lunch crew...

I bet he gives a straight answer, and I bet down deep in his core he believes in that answer.

The question is whether he's right or not.

Because a 2 yard gain between the two playcalls gobbles up a minute plus of time. This is all about shortening the game because they don't trust any one thing.

Could very well be the case. Forcing themselves into 3rd and long on the first 4 possessions of a game isn't doing any favors though. I'd rather he risk it and play aggressively. Today should be an interesting luncheon.

he'll tell you that if they can establish the run then it opens everything else up - I doubt he'll talk to the point that they fail virtually every time they try to establish the run, but focus on the benefits that actually doing so would bring.

Ask him why did we turn down Neal? Sure seems like we can use talent at all positions and to turn away talent is a bad thing.

Unfortunately I don't think he can talk about recruits at this point can he? At least in terms of commits and things of that nature.

NCAA doesn't allow coaches to talk about recruits...don't think you would get an answer to that question

If you don't trust anything, go the other way - try everything. If all the options are equally bad, give them all equal exposure. Maybe something magical happens.

And I wonder if he'll be asked why is he running onto the field with a 1:40 left in the half to bang a time out after a 2-3 yd gain on first down?! If you're going to take the time out at least let the clock run down to 1-2 seconds. We leave too much time on the clock and they respond with a fg that changed the complexion of the whole game.
If we could have had better clock management at the end of the half it should have ended 20-10. Twice in the second half we went for td's when we were within fg range because we were down 23-10. We could have actually cut the lead to 20-16 at one point and from there who knows. Uggghhhh. Sorry still upset.

That is an excellent question...

Stuff like endarounds to the TE? They've tried a lot things in games, that's the least of it.

End off the day we need better players and more of them. If we got exposed anywhere on Fri it was watching a safety at WR and some underrecruited TEs in space.

The old "endaround to the TE" defense, eh? That's really your defense.

They don't try things until their hand is forced.

Ugh...

They've run a lot of stuff, nothing really pops...so...they've decided to burn clock.

End of the day it's up to Marrone to bring in talent, and recruiting SU football isn't like SU hoops. So, gotta be patient.

I get it. I was fine with that last year. Our D isn't near good enough to do that this year. But whatever, it's his program, he can do what he wants.

If it is just talent then GRob should have never been fired. In addition SU has never and will never out talent teams. So should we give up?

This is exactly why SU needs a different offensive system that makes up for a lack of NFL-type talent. In this regard, Deleone was right. And, for those who are worried about not getting NFL-caliber QBs: Who cares? I could give a rats' behind if SU never sends another QB to the NFL. You can have great college offenses with QBs who will never play a down in the NFL.

Marrone has basically been a 500 coach. Syracuse has outtalented guys at positions, taken advantage of mismatches, etc over the years. We have a QB whose only D1 offer I think was SU, a thin WR group and one RB. That's it. And this is the trap year b/t the GRob kids that stayed.

Your reaction to my post was a bit ridiculous, we're not shutting down the football program.

im sure he planned on only getting 8 yds on the first carry of the game and said that puts the offense in a huge hole..

first drive 8 yds. is that not perfect?
2nd drive 4,5,10..
3rd dive 4,1,4,7
4th drive 3,7
6th drive 1,5,9 drive stalls passing,

so ask again how the run only on first down was a bad idea? 3-0 with the score coming off a shank punt..
where did the idea it led to 3rd and long come from? the turning point of the game came when we were driving in the 3rd
we ran for 4,8,3,7,5. we were running down their throats the period ends they regroup we ran again for 5 then gto stuffed and tow incompletes.. i would argue we should have run it 4 times.. the game becomes 23-17 and who knows after that..

And I would also ask. if the game planning is so poor , then they should complain to the coaches about exploiting the WV D so well

No scholarships are available for Neal or anyone else. The class of 2012 is complete.

We have 21 committed but that is including Smallwood, Broyld and Davis who count against 2011 correct? That literally means we don't know about 7 commits ... is that right or am I missing something?

At the lunch today, I asked Doug "Why, Doug, WHY?!"

He responded with a smirk and said "Just...wait...until...2012...then 2013."

He then tipped his visor and strode off.

Then I realized I was in Baltimore and hallucinating.

I honestly wonder how confident he is about his 2012 squad ... I have heard a few say that Marrone feels it will be damn good.

Did I miss a write up on lunch? Don't see anything. Hoping for a recap.
