SU has taken the fewest amount of threes per game of any team in the ACC.

We make threes at the sixth BEST rate in the conference.

Our offense is such a mess and this seems to be a major reason why.

Why aren’t we taking many many more of the shots were actually good at making?

Because Etan Thomas said the offense should be ran through Jesse.

We are a poor screening team.

jesse gets doubled and we never get it back out to shoot the 3

Do you think Jesse should be on the block or used in spread pick and roll?

I just want us to take more of the shots we make.

My point is if we’re hammer Jesse on the block, we’re not utilizing three point shooting as much as we could. And, imo, while Jesse is insanely efficient, I think the team would be better as a whole if we did spread pick and roll. And, we would be shooting more threes out of it.

I agree. If Jesse could pass out of the double team it would help. But alas…

Bc JB has messed with Bell and Taylor (who are both great shooters) and screwed around with their pt and benching them for every little mistake to the point they can’t see straight and now he’s putting Quadir in again probably only to give him enough carrot to convince him to come back next year…. Awful

My belief is he is sitting them for bad defense on the wing. We are indeed a terrible defensive team but we are a bad offensive team as well most nights

This is from cbbanalytics.com (which is a phenomenal site) and from the last 5 games.

Here's the dirty math:
1) Syracuse ranks in the top 15 in the country in taking mid-range twos, which is the least efficient shot you can take.
2) They play at a slower pace, which limits the number of possessions that they have
3) They can't rebound those mid-range shots when they miss, further limiting the number of possessions that they have.

Meanwhile their defense lets teams:
1) dictate their own tempo
2) shoot threes at a high clip
3) and get second chances.

Made 3s count more than 2s.

This is a phenomenal post. Thanks for doing the work.

Bad shots, slow pace, poor rebounding. Heckuva formula.

And that doesn't even take into account the system, lack of player movement and overall wasted dribbling with no purpose.

Yeah, and it's not an either or proposition. Even the worst offensive team is going to score some points, but a team only has so many possessions to score more points than the opponent. Wasting those opportunities and giving the opponent more is not a winning strategy.

All compounded by the fact that we gift opponents tens of additional possessions because we can't rebound the ball effectively out of the zone.

This whole system, both on offense and defense, is a lesson of what not to do in modern hopes.

It's like someone brought a Roman legion from the past and set it against a navy seal team.

Both teams shot 38.9% on 3s-- SU: 7/18, Clemson: 14/36 - for twice as many points (+21). Point made.
judah's shooting was a bit of an outlier stat for the season. but true.

Bell and Taylor will shoot when open. It’s a matter of getting them open and getting the ball to them. Neither can really create their own shot.

Girard props up the team’s 3pt% by shooting so many of the team’s 3’s and at a high percentage.

Mintz can only make threes that are wide open. It’s just not going to be a big part of his game right now.

The rest don’t play enough or shoot well enough to make a difference.
