- It’s NC State, Jake.

Syracuse vs North Carolina State 1869-2023

- Because we ain’t so tough. We’ve beaten two barely ranked teams who aren’t ranked any more because we beat ‘em, plus Ohio U. and Holly Cross. And we lost to Stanford. Stanford. State has played Tennessee and Clemson. Why would they be afraid of us?

"I ain't so tough."

- Because the injuries are starting to pile up for SU and that’s what has crushed promising seasons here for years. They always seem to hit us in one spot. Marlowe Wax, our defensive leader, won’t be back until Pittsburgh. Tank Wilson, who was brought in to solidify our rushing defense, is out for the year. Kevin Jobity, who has made some big plays for us, is out for the year. Marcellus Barnes, probably our best CB, may be back. Back-up running back Will Nixon is also out for the year. That’s 5 games in with 7 to go.

- The Wolfpack has seen those 6 blocked kicks on film and they will be howling!

- Grayson McCall might not be able to play, (I hope he won’t, for his sake), but CJ Bailey has actually played more than he has and seems just as good: 2024 Football Cumulative Statistics

- Kyle McCord has 6 picks and should have had a couple more vs. UNLV, (and Ohio). Sometimes he throws the ball like Tom Brady. Sometimes he throws it like Peter Brady.

Stats that favor N State:
OFFENSIVE RUSHING YARDS SU- 109.60 NCS – 123.30
BLOCKED KICKS ALLOWED SU- 6 NCS - 0
DEFENSIVE COMPLETION PERCENTAGE SU- 65.84 NCS – 56.70
KICKOFFS THAT WERE RETURNED SU- 5/32 = 15.625% NCS - 0/35 = 00%
NET PUNTING SU- 36.00 NCS – 40.46
FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE SU- 4/8 = 50.00% NCS – 9/11 = 81.81% LONGEST FG SU- 33 NCS - 52
40 YARDS + SU- 0/3 = 00.00% NCS – 2/4 = 50.00%

We had an advantage in 18 stats to the Wolfpack’s 8 but it may be more significant that there were 22 stats where the difference didn’t seem decisive, (below), indicating the teams are comparably matched. The Pack had been running the ball better than we are – but we are getting better and their running defense (below) has been worse than ours by about the same margin. Our pass defense is leakier by completion percentage but they have actually given up more passing yards. The blocked kicks have produced our lousy net punting stat but NC State hasn’t blocked a kick this year. They haven’t had a kickoff returned but, as been discussed on our board, we’re probably better off not returning them. State can certainly kick field goals better than we can.
