- Last year we beat Western Michigan 48-7 but we lost three key players in that game: TE Oronde Gadsden, LB Stephon Thompson and OT Dave Wohlabaugh. They were all out for the season. If something like that happens again, the game will be a loss regardless of the scoreboard.
- And if Kyle McCord, after all this anticipation, has an Aaron Rodgers year, (out for the year after a few plays), that would be a crushing blow to our season and maybe put this game in doubt. There’s a reason Michael Johnson has bounced around and wound up at Florida Atlantic. What if we had to rely on Carlos Del Rio Wilson?
- Ohio U. has won 10 games two years in a row. Yes, they are rebuilding but they know how to do that and they know how to win. From my preview: “They have two QBs who have won bowl games: CJ Harris from the 2022 Arizona Bowl, where they beat Wyoming 30-27 and Parker Navarro, who beat Georgia Southern...Their defensive strength is the secondary with DB’s Tank Peterson, Austin Brawley and Adonis Williams. We will be playing four non-power conference teams this year but those teams won 29 games last year. There’s not a Wagner among them.
- We’ve got those two big tackles, Savion Washington and Da'Metrius Weatherspoon but Washington was heavily criticized in Colorado last year and Weatherspoon was playing for Howard U. Big guys are fine but you’re supposed to get there firstus with the mostus, Having the mostus does you no good if you don’t get there firstus.
- Aside from McCord and Fadil Diggs, most of our new acquisitions are guys who haven’t played yet or much, being mostly coached by men who haven’t had this level of responsibility before.
