I think maybe Fran got too caught up in his preferred philosophy in round 1 without fully assessing or recognizing the roster needs. Sone of us were pulling our hair out. Seems like he came around.

Hopefully get a few more spots filled and then maybe … just maybe… we can surprise some people. Always hate the idea that any season is just a throwaway in this era of complete roster turnover.

I think Fran felt comfortable on the returning players. Watson and Pena were unexpected. Feel Fran wanted at make assessments after seeing spring. He recognized areas of concern and filling those needs. He is also upgrading when possible.
He got Angelli (sp) when he became available.
Looking to replace Pena.
Lost Oline that were probably on the second line which hurt depth but Fran is moving to fill those needs.
He brought in Rooks for Watson. I know it’s hard to replace Watson but Rooks is an experienced starter.
Still need an experienced corner.
Overall think Fran is taking care of business.

Linebacker in particular was a clear area needing reinforcement. I’d love to know why Fran waited to round 2. Maybe he didn’t wait, just couldn’t get anyone to commit?

He may have needed some time to build up the war chest and let the dust settle on who was going to be here. We look a lot different if McCord, LQA, Pena, and Watson are still on the team. Also, I'm sure they had some conversations about who may or may not be available from other teams after the spring, too

I think the cost of acquiring NFL talent in round one would’ve been too high for us.

I think our NIL funds are running low so Fran is targeting NFL caliber players with checkered pasts and offering a second chance with DART at lower NIL

I think it makes quite a lot of sense with what's transpired over the last few months. Mccord and LQA decisions paired with Pena and Watson leaving. Fran had stated they had upped Pena and Watsons NIL due to their play last year. Mccord and LQA would have had big deals if they stayed. Those 4 players would have been at the very top of the payroll if they were on the SU roster. A lot of NIL freed up paired with some unexpected players transferring equals a flurry of activity in the second round

Seems like he came around. Yes, I think he came around quite nicely considering most of our play, our record, and all the Syracuse publicity after the draft, new players out of the portal, esp. Angeli. quite good IMHO.

With what money? Those entering the portal left Fran with some money to spend that was going elsewhere had they stayed. There is a process here and financial restrictions regardless of how fans feel about who Fran should be chasing.

This may become his new pattern, wait til the dust settles after Spring practice and then pound the Spring portal. It makes sense.
