WMU Series Announced 2018-2019

Western Michigan will host the Orange at Waldo Stadium on Sept. 1, 2018 in the season opener for both teams. The Orange welcome the Broncos to Central New York on Sept. 21, 2019. To help accommodate the return trip by Western Michigan to Syracuse, the Orange's road game with Maryland previously scheduled for Sept. 21, 2019 has been moved to Sept. 7, 2019

Another step in the right direction! They have been mediocre to bad for years. In recent years they have been really good but with PJ Fleck gone they should come back to earth.

Is it normal for P5 schools to schedule home-and-homes with the MAC? Just asking. Would have thought we could get a 2-for-1 from a MAC school, but I know beggers can't be choosers at this point.

This is good stuff. That is, until we get syracuse.com and Nunes posters saying that we should have scheduled Michigan or Michigan State instead of Western Michigan because Western Michigan isn't an exciting enough opponent.

Yes. Under GRob, SU played Miami (OH) as a 1:1.

The game with Middle Tenn is an exception to the rule but generally SU isn't going to be able to pay non-power teams to come to the Dome as a one-off anymore.

I am with you. We should be getting 2 for 1

Maryland has a home and home coming up with Bowling Green, and one with Charlotte.

Indiana has a home and home with FIU.

Just throwing out a few examples.

I think WMU is absolutely perfect for us considering our cass tech/michigan recruiting. Will gladly trip there.

SU's schedules are now done for 2018 and 2019.

Just need a non-power team and an FCS team for both 2020 and 2021.

We're making better OOC schedule progress than during the Doc Gross days for sure.

Kalamazoo is the same distance from Detroit as Chicago. Cass Tech kids aren't going to schlep all the way across the state to watch.

No problem playing Western Michigan but the 1 for 1 is dumb.
We shouldn't make 1 for 1 with MAC teams precedent.

2019 schedule now
August 31 at Liberty
September 7 at Maryland
September 21 Western Michigan

TBA
Holy Cross
Clemson
Boston College
Wake Forest
Pittsburgh
@ Florida State
@ Louisville
@ NC State
@ Duke

Sounds good, but this isn't 1996 anymore. Other power conference teams who are playing 1:1 non-conference series vs. non-power programs in the near future include:

Texas (vs. USF)
Oklahoma (vs. Temple)
Tennessee (vs. UConn)
Miami (vs. Toledo)
Arkansas (vs. Colorado St.)
Va. Tech (vs. Old Dominion)...This is a 2:2 series.

Nunes brought up the same point and used the same rationale to explain why :)

Tennessee canceled the UConn series.

We played USF 1-1 that was fine.

MAC teams we should be able to get 2 for 1s. If we are going to play 1-1 MAC deals give them to Eastern Michigan which is in Ann Arbor area or teams in Ohio for recruiting.

I got no problem with Western Michigan though. This AD is definitely giving Dino a chance to win some games.

Very happy with the direction the non-conference schedule is going. Definitely gives us the chance to see some success

What a difference from 2007, when SU played Washington, Iowa and Illinois in the same season, or 2008 (NW, PSU, ND).

how about 2012? Northwestern, USC, Missouri, Minnesota. Sorry, but Gross was a moron

2005 - UVA, FSU, ND (in an 11 game season...thank God)

2012 - NW, USC, Minny, Mizzou

A lot of fun OOCs in there.

Exactly - except for the Mizzou game. I'm okay with scheduling stupid in the rare occasion it's within driving distance for me.
