Sorry. I thought this was some new program y'all were watching.

Since we're talking WR's I think we have a claim to being Wide Receiver University considering the talent that has been drafted into the NFL, stats, and HOF members. I thought I'd list all the best I could find along with their physical stats, NFL stats and some SU records. Ishmael, Philips, and Tawo remain to be developed as they have yet to play an NFL game. It is generally recognized that Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning are the best receiver – quarterback duo in NFL history. Harrison has many records still standing in the NFL at 36.

Steve Ishmael - 6'2” 209 – COLTS SIGNED FREE AGENT CONTRACT - set all time record for rec YDS @ SU breaking Harrison's record

Ervin Philips – BUCS SIGNED FREE AGENT CONTRACT 5'11” 181, only SU WR with 200 REC YDS and 500 RUSH YDS

Atta Emba Tawo – SIGNED GIANTS FUTURES CONTRACT. 6'1” 208, 918” Hand 91/4, 4.35 40

Mike Williams – BUCS, - 6' 221, 9 ¼ Hand, in NFL 6 YRS, 223 REC - 3,089 YDS, 26 TD

Johnie Morant – RAIDERS, - 6' 4” 224, in NFL 5 YRS, stats negligible

David Tyree – GIANTS – 6' 206 Blue Chip AA as a HS senior, in NFL 6 YRS. Known for two plays in Super Bowl XLII, touchdown catch and the infamous, iconic “Helmet Catch.” Giants went on to win over the Patriots, ( I love to say that ). He is currently Director of Player Development for the Giants

Kevin Johnson – BROWNS, 5” 11”, 195, in NFL 8 YRS, 384 REC - 4,595 YDS, 25 TDS

Jim Turner – PANTHERS, 6' 4” 212, in NFL 4 YRS NO STATS

Rob Carpenter – BENGALS, 6' 2”, 190 in NFL 5 YRS. 51 REC - 607 YDS, 1 TD

Marvin Harrison – COLTS, RD 1 PK 19, HOF, 6' 185, in NFL, 12 years 1,102 REC - 14,580 YDS, 128 TDS. A few records that are still the best in the NFL are QB/REC duo:

  • Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning currently hold the record for most completions between a Wide Receiver and Quarterback with 953.
  • Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning currently hold the NFL record for passing touchdowns between a WR and QB with 112.
  • Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning currently hold the NFL record for passing yards between a WR and QB with 12,756.
  • Marvin Harrison and Peyton Manning currently hold the NFL record for completions in a season between a WR and QB with 143 in 2002.
Qadry Ismail – VIKINGS, 6' 196 - in 1988, ranked nations best HS hurdler, 6x PIAA State Champion 110m Hurdler, SU track All American 55m indoor hurdles, BIG EAST 110m Champion, SU record holder 55m Hurdles. 10YRS NFL, REC - 353 REC - 5137 YDS, 33 TDS, RUSH 34 – 433 YDS. 6 TDS, K RET – 105 RET 2290YDS, 1TD, AVG. 21.8 YDS. 40? Doing color commentaran the 49Sy for Arena Football.

Rob Moore – JETS, 6”3” 202 in NFL 11 YRS 628 REC - 9,368 YDS, 49 TDS. Is now TITANS WR coach.

Tommy Kane – SEAHAWKS, in NFL 5 YRS, 142 REC - 2,034 YDS 9 TDS

Scott Schwedes – DOLPHINS – 6' 182 in NFL 4 YRS

Art Monk – REDSKINS RD 1, P 18, 6' 3” in NFL15YRS HOF 940 REC - 12,721 YDS., 68 TDS.

Of course when talking about receivers I would be remiss if I did not include the best of all time with 1,549 REC, 22,895 YDS, 14.8 YDS PC, 197 TDS from Mississippi Valley State, 49ers, Raiders, Seahawks and Broncos 4.55 -4.71 40? Who is it?

Jerry Rice- the GOAT!
Developed his hand/eye coordination catching bricks that his stonemason father would toss to him, in Southern heat and humidity btw, while building walls. FYI

LOVE the passion, but the real WR U would have a first/second round draft pick in the past decade. We’ve had as many as a dead man has had rebounds in a game for Boeheim.

What? No John Mackey? I know it was a different era, but John Mackey was one of the greatest pass receivers of all time!

Almost all of our greatest WR’s were here when we threw the ball 20 times a game...often while playing in a Dome. Go figure.

Now that we’re throwing it around, hopefully we can start getting the stud talents at that positon again. Mike Williams and Morant are really the only physical studs we’ve had in the 2000’s, and they were largely wasted(Williams did it to himself). Those guys with Babers...man.

All that to say I’m super excited about this kid as well as a few others that we’ve recruited in recent classes. Seems like we might bestarting to get the athletes with the top level speed/explosiveness again at this position that gives them that very high potential first day NFL draft pick ceiling that our recent very productive college WRs(Lemon, Etta Tawo, Ishmael, etc.) have been missing.

One of the WR on the current roster will get drafted. Just a matter of time.

Williams and Morant aside, I always wonder how Marcus Sales would have done under this offense and with a better head on his shoulders

I also saw an update where he ran for a TD out of the wildcat later in the game, can't find full game stats yet.
