Eastern Michigan is going to be a tough game. They have size. They know the zone. We don't see a lot of zones, and sometimes we struggle (or sometimes Cooney gets "white hot").

DaShonte Riley is still there, and is playing pretty well. They have their own version of CJ Fair in 6-8 Karrington Ward, who averages 15 and 6. They also have a pretty good PF named Glenn Bryant. This team is like 'Boss Squirrel', to quote SWC. They beat a good Oakland team, Cleveland State and Green Bay. These are teams we are all familiar with, and EMU seem to be among the best of this tier of team this season.

They have also faced quality competition - they stayed close to Purdue, they kept it to a respectable 12 points against UMass, who is playing great right now. They also lost to Duke and Kentucky by about 20 points in each game. So they will have played top flight opponents before us on a number of occasions. They will not be in awe of the Dome. We played these guys last year, I believe, and maybe the year before, as well.

I think EMU covers the spread, and could even keep it to single digits if they get good play from their guards. I think that for a mid-major, EMU has an excellent front court with a lot of size. They have 1 pretty good guard but not a lot of depth.

This game has "sleep walk" written all over it for the Orange. Unusual starting time in mid-afternoon. New Year's Eve - you've got to think that the players are thinking about parties they'll be going to later on that night.

Over Under on number of blocked shots Riley has?

I could see us struggling during the first half, like we seem to often do against these cream puff matchups...but we will safely pull away during the early part of the 2nd half.

Looking forward to some more tacos!

The most interesting thing about this game will be to see if SU can beat EMU by a score of 84-48. If they, it will be the third season in a row this has happened.

3 instances of the same palidrome score would be very rare indeed!

You would think our zone offense would be better, but I've never been impressed with it.

Though with Ennis and Cooney I don't think it will be as much of an issue.

I remember syracuse had interest in Glenn Bryant way back when. I think we got mookie Jones instead?

Matt,

We win today and finish the preseason 13-0. There is no way Eastern Michigan has an answer for Ennis, Cooney, CJ and Jerami.

I didn't say they would beat us; just that this has the potential to be one of those games that you find the other team hanging around and hanging around and you have to grind it out.

I think your thinking of the past few years' teams that liked to keep the opponents around.

We destroyed an 18 point deficit and won by 16 vs a team that we play(ed) every year and knows our game. I think this team is better than that.

That game was High Point. It wont happen today

Tend to agree with Ithaca on this one - considering the timing, the opponent, etc. feel like it will be a tough one, at least through halftime

I think that as long as Rob is coaching them that should serve as sufficient motivation to prevent the team from overlooking them as an opponent.

We still have at least a couple of guys that played for Rob and there would be a couple of others that would have been recruited by him. I also have to believe that JB and Hop have a little something extra special ready in the player motivation Kool Aid when they have a matchup against a former staff member. I am sure they both want Rob to do well, but against everyone but SU.

Emu played us tough last year early on. Ward was successful early and then we went on a ridiculous run to break it open. I think we will be more ready than some think.

I expect us to score much more easily and efficiently against their 2-3 than anyone else has. I'm not sure what some have been watching this year but we have been very good against zone and the strength of our team is efficient half court offense. Our key to early separation should be good defensive intensity and protecting the backboards.

Of course I'm watching with my dad 2moro on the DVR so I'll have to see if I'm wrong then.

Trevor will bust the zone like a raw egg. My crystal ball sees seven threes for him today. Ball rotation will be key for many open threes on both sides of the court. Fill it up White Hot!!!

Should I also add EMU to the list of teams "we don't want any part of come tourney time"?

Because we pressed I think they will be ready for the press today...we will win but by less than 16...which is the number we beat nova by

I thought Troy was coaching them (j/k). Just as long as we don't have to play on one of those smaller courts. LOL
