Eastern Michigan is going to be a tough game. They have size. They know the zone. We don't see a lot of zones, and sometimes we struggle (or sometimes Cooney gets "white hot").
DaShonte Riley is still there, and is playing pretty well. They have their own version of CJ Fair in 6-8 Karrington Ward, who averages 15 and 6. They also have a pretty good PF named Glenn Bryant. This team is like 'Boss Squirrel', to quote SWC. They beat a good Oakland team, Cleveland State and Green Bay. These are teams we are all familiar with, and EMU seem to be among the best of this tier of team this season.
They have also faced quality competition - they stayed close to Purdue, they kept it to a respectable 12 points against UMass, who is playing great right now. They also lost to Duke and Kentucky by about 20 points in each game. So they will have played top flight opponents before us on a number of occasions. They will not be in awe of the Dome. We played these guys last year, I believe, and maybe the year before, as well.
I think EMU covers the spread, and could even keep it to single digits if they get good play from their guards. I think that for a mid-major, EMU has an excellent front court with a lot of size. They have 1 pretty good guard but not a lot of depth.
This game has "sleep walk" written all over it for the Orange. Unusual starting time in mid-afternoon. New Year's Eve - you've got to think that the players are thinking about parties they'll be going to later on that night.
