M*A*S*H*
Hill Street Blues
Seinfeld
{about 5 or 6 different shows I would need to spend some time thinking about}
Immediate first thought

Cheers
Seinfeld
Bob Newhart Show
King of Queens
Ooh, Cheers and the Bob Newhart Show.

7 or 8 shows.

Probably 10.

I won't be able to come up with just 4. :(

The original one right? Not the one where he runs the inn in Vermont.
Correct. I enjoy both, but love the original one where he is a psychologist.

Great question. I'm with orange79, not sure I can whittle it down to 4. So I won't.

Network TV
Miami Vice (loved the feel for the time - and the clothes!)
NYPD Blue - such a solid show that kept evolving with new characters - all centered around Sipowicz
Cheers (one of the main reasons I moved to Boston after college for some reason)
Friends (I'm a 51-year old guy who was going through that time of life seemingly at the same time as the characters)

Pay TV
The Sopranos
Homeland
Strike Back
(I'm a sucker for CIA/Special Ops shows and the graphic nudity didn't hurt)
Spartacus

Honorable Mention
The Newsroom
West Wing

Feels like I'm going to want to add to this over time.

If I were to add to my list as honorable mention:

Dick Van Dyke Show
Dennis the Menace
Friends
Dukes of Hazzard
Emergency
The Office (first 4 seasons)
Law and Order (episodes with Sam Waterson, Jill Hennessy and Jerry Orbach)
The Wonder Years

My list is weird.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Community
Lost (they completely blew the ending but for a while it was amazing)
Orphan Black

But yeah, picking 4 is hard

I have not watched nearly as many shows as others so my list is a bit easier to come to.

Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
The Office
Game of Thrones

And this might blow your mind because it's a cartoon, but the first 5 seasons of Spongebob Squarepants.

I've never seen The Sopranos, The Wire, Dexter, House of Cards, to name a few that others love.

I wanted to pick Saul but limited myself to shows that are no longer running.

Some super choices in this thread.

NYPD Blue was a close second for me to HSB. West Wing and Carol Burnett were great, too.

While Quantum Leap would not make my Mt. Rushmore, I thoroughly enjoyed that show.
